25 reviews for Schrader's Windward Marine Resort, Kaneohe
Very Disapointed
By Mary, 02/08/10
My wife and I spent 14 days in Oahu. We had a wonderful time. Our plans were to spend the first 6 nights in Waikiki, then get away from the crowds and go to Schraders Windward Resort. We picked this place because the website made it look very attractive. We were eating lunch in the area a couple of days prior to our stay, when we asked our waitress what she knew about the place. She said it was in a bad neighborhood and the resort was run down. We decided to check it out, and we are glad we did. Its located on a stagnant back water of the bay (Kaneohe); not good for swimming unless you take a boat out aways. There are a couple of boats, but they are dirty and half sunk. The gal at the front desk took us to the room where would be staying, and we found it unsatifactory. The deck was rotten, the railing was falling off, and the chairs on the deck were filthy. Then she opened up the room door. The smell of mold was overwhelming. The place, which was built in the fifties, appears as though it has never been updated. I decided that we would not be staying at Schrader's, and we were hit with a $98 cancellation fee. Just wanted to share this information with other people interested in staying here; the website pictures are misleading!

Looking Forward For Another Date in Paradise
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/21/09
there was nothing to dis-like about this beautiful and wonderful place. It remimded us of how Hawaii use to look back in the days. The people that work there were kind and courteous, full of warm aloha. The continental breakfast was great better than the ones in waikiki. Thanks again for a wonderful stay. We will see you soon. Aloha

Just what the Docter ordered
By Marcia, 08/18/09
I really needed a get away, made my reservation on line, got a room at $125.00, it was perfect, right below the breakfast deck, it was beautiful, bathroom was done in slate, I have to do this in my house. I did notice older unit down by the water, would have liked to try those rooms but they were sold the whole of my stay, maybe next time. Breakfast was great, fresh Papayas and pineapples, great place to collect your thoughts.

Be Wary
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/29/09
We were looking for a place away from Waikiki and weren't looking for high surf. On line and in discussion with the reservation agent, this sounded like the place. At $125 per night (agreed, not really high as Hawaii rates go), we expected something more than we got. This is a 1950s vintage resort that hasn't seen much updating since. It was evident that we had made a mistake as we drove down the lane to get there (cars up on blocks and the reception area). To be fair, sheets and towels were clean, but the positives stop there. A hole in the front porch that was covered with carpet, a board on the floor that I suspect was covering a hole in the floor in the bathroom, railing that was rotting away, poor parking, overgrown "landscapng", worn amenities, a Super 8 quality breakfast, noise from our adjoining rooms were all a part of the Hawaiian charm. It was soooo nice that we spent all of our time except for sleeping, somewhere else. We have been travelling the world for more than 40 years and have stayed at a wide variety of places, good and bad. I, personally, have not been in a place as run-down since I stayed in a room for $5 per night over 30 years ago! Motel 6, Ibis, Knights Inn, former communist hotels, hostels all rate in front of the quality of this place. Other reviews rave about this place. People seemed nice enough. "Old World charm" and "away from the hustle of Waikiki" mean just flat worn out. Stay there if you like this sort of thing, but don't if you want any sort of quality. My own fault, but I feel taken.

Best-kept secret on Oahu!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/20/08
For just a little over $100/night we had an incredible time, far from the crowds and commercialism of Waikiki. Imagine awakening to the birds singing in the mangrove trees leading to Kaneohe Bay, just yards away from your personal lanai. Upstairs on the public lanai you have an all-you-can-eat breakfast full of fresh island fruits (papaya halves, pineapple, etc.) to your heart's content, warm homebaked muffins, yogurt, lots of hot and cold choices. You can reserve kayaks and paddle wheels to take out onto the bay, ride on the boat Wednesday and Saturday to the middle of Kaneohe Bay to play volleyball (we're not kidding!) and snorkel the coral reef, and enjoy a delicious island dinner and entertainment Wednesday evening. ALL these amenities are included free with your stay there. Pool, hot tub, a view of the sunrise over the bay each morning...can we say anything better about this place? We three middle-aged couples LOVED IT!

Mom and Pop hotel with hospitality
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/22/07
To start, it is in a local neighborhood off the beaten tourist track, where honest people live. They've cleaned up the drug problem years ago, and my wife and I never felt insecure when we took a stroll down the street for 10 minutes. In fact the people are very friendly and even wave to you while your walking or driving down the street. Hawaii is a certain state of mind place. If YOU don't act all up tight and "TOURISTY", THEY don't react to you in a negative fashion. Just respect their land and customs and you have a great time. Anyway, back to the hotel. When we arrived one of the kind hotel employees physically walked out and showed us the parking space for our stay. She then helped us with some of our luggage down a long stairway to our room. How many small corporate-run hotels would even do that? When we got inside our room we realized we were upgraded and they didn't charge extra for it! They told us we were getting a plain-jane room for the minimum charge back when I booked it. The room had some shortfalls like some localized ants and an occasional Gecko on the wall, if the ladies aren't into cute little reptiles. This is what lives in a tropical zone, so expect it. The extra kickers that are given to the customers are outstanding. Every morning there is a Continental breakfast out on the main lanai. This includes-different coffees, teas, juices, milk, waffles,bagels,cottage-cheese,scrambled eggs and Portuguese sausage on certain days, and freshly-picked off the property's tree guava, and pineapple. Load your plate full of food, sit down, and enjoy the splender of the spectacular view Hawaii has to offer. Every Wednesday evening come to the main lanai for a delicious meal and local entertainment. The time my wife and I were there we were fed- Tofu salad, steamed rice,stir-fried veggies sauted in sesame oil, Roast-beef that was very tender, bread, and homemade upside-down pineapple cake and coconut cake that was some of the best that I have ever tasted. Then, the local musicians played ukelele, and slide guitar, while singing old and new Hawaiian favorites. They even took requests and joked with the crowd. While the music is playing the employees bring around all the complimentary Mai-tais and beer you can drink. The other kickers include Wednesday Kayaking/Sandbar trip. And Saturday's 2 hour boat ride to snorkel the reef, and play volleyball at the sandbar. If you want family or alone-time, there is a nice pool with Jacuzzi down in the back of the property, as well as paddleboats and picnic tables to boot. I'll end my long winded review by saying that the hotel and the owners are humble, and made mine and my wife's stay comfortable. But, then again it is nice to give back to the slowly departing local business community anywhere. See what the REST of Oahu has to offer, get off the expensive Waikiki tourist trail, use common-sense, and you'll find lots of fun in other parts of this awesome island. Enjoy, and Aloha! 10/21/2007

Great rustic place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/05/07
This is a great place but it is not the hotels on the strip in Waikiki. If you like old cottages on "cape Cod" style you will love this place. Everything they add is just wonderful. I stayed here about 4 nights Jan 2007, loved every minute especially for the price. We have stayed 30 nights in HI over the last 2-3 years so we kind of like the off the beaten path of Schaders. Free WiFi was available on the breakfast area/porch.

What the?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/12/07
First of all i want to say that i read these reviews before i booked here. I am actually from the island and thought...these people are just not used to the island style and they maybe over reacting. So i booked anyway being that i was moving back to the island (we are military) and we arrived to the location about 11pm. When we got there i was a little scared. Its in a neighborhood and very hidden. When we arrived (with 3 kids in the car) there was only a security guard there to hand me the key and direct me to the parking lot. The parking is on a very very very steep hill and at the end of the hill is water..so make sure that your brakes are in very well working condition. So he tell us where to park and i couldnt understand him so i just parked, not like anyone else was parked down there. I will tell you i did turn around when we first drove up and my husband was so tired he said to go back. Ok, so we unpack and and get the kids in the bed. They were a little freaked out when they saw the roaches around the doors. (outside) When we first walked in the refrigerator was in the doorway and we had to squeeze by. There was also a bed in the living room. Basically these are duplex's made into rental rooms. They sit on stilts and have a great view. But the condition is not so great. We only stayed for 2 days when we were supposed to stay for 3 weeks. We end up going to Waikiki and getting a room in the outrigger. They were very nice and also don't require a deposit from military. And we got 2 rooms for $60 less then the room in Kaneohe. So if your military, You will not like this place! Promise...I also have some pics that i took for you all to see....just in case you wanted to see them...If you dont plan on being in the room and staying on the windward side, this place is great, if you want to explore and be safe, i advise go downtown...but the one thing that is great was the Staff...they are great at the front desk and all so friendly...P.S. No internet and only 1 TV!!!!Thanks Wont let me paste pics...sorry....
