Not going back!
By ,
The view is always great, local staff great, except for new manager, had complaints about ants and bugs, breakfast was bad, free dinner was free, music great, checked out early and manager didn' even bother to find out why, that explains everything right there.

What a GEM
By ,
Yes, they are renovating, but they still took good care of us. We got in late Tuesday night, security guard took us to our room, wow slate shower stall, balcony over the swimming pool and when we woke up we had no idea the most beautiful mountain range greeted us, we were told they call it the Koolaus, amazing. Went upstairs and had breakfast, tried Papaya for the first time, loved it. Guava juice was very good too. Went kayaking, the water was so calm and found a coral reef so full of life. To our delight when we got back to find out dinner was included, Local Style Chicken and fish entrees, a stir fry of fresh vegetable, Coconut rice and a salad filled with vegetable I've never seen before, wonderful and Banana Cream Pie and maybe too many mai Tais but they were so good. Yes we are coming back!! The Staff is like family now.

Amazing location, great Hawaiian vibe, needs TLC
By ,
Before visiting the Windward Marine Resort the North Shore of Kauai was our favorite spot. The views from WMR are outstanding looking at the awesome mountains with waterfalls, over the ancient Hawaiian lake, the Bay to the ocean and the ChinaMans hat island. The setting and feel of the property are very Old Hawaii/Zen. The first room we were offered(not premium) was not very nice and we upgraded immediatly to a remodeled room which was great. Wood floors, slate in kitchen and bath, really nice furnishings and beddings, nice finishes, and a great Lanai with spectacular view. They had a large boat tour which takes you out on the bay and ocean for snorkel and relax and enjoy the amazing views. The property needs some TLC and the "unremodeled" rooms need updating other than that it is world class.

Very Disapointed
By ,
My wife and I spent 14 days in Oahu. We had a wonderful time. Our plans were to spend the first 6 nights in Waikiki, then get away from the crowds and go to Schraders Windward Resort. We picked this place because the website made it look very attractive. We were eating lunch in the area a couple of days prior to our stay, when we asked our waitress what she knew about the place. She said it was in a bad neighborhood and the resort was run down. We decided to check it out, and we are glad we did. Its located on a stagnant back water of the bay (Kaneohe); not good for swimming unless you take a boat out aways. There are a couple of boats, but they are dirty and half sunk. The gal at the front desk took us to the room where would be staying, and we found it unsatifactory. The deck was rotten, the railing was falling off, and the chairs on the deck were filthy. Then she opened up the room door. The smell of mold was overwhelming. The place, which was built in the fifties, appears as though it has never been updated. I decided that we would not be staying at Schrader's, and we were hit with a $98 cancellation fee. Just wanted to share this information with other people interested in staying here; the website pictures are misleading!

Looking Forward For Another Date in Paradise
By ,
there was nothing to dis-like about this beautiful and wonderful place. It remimded us of how Hawaii use to look back in the days. The people that work there were kind and courteous, full of warm aloha. The continental breakfast was great better than the ones in waikiki. Thanks again for a wonderful stay. We will see you soon. Aloha

Just what the Docter ordered
By ,
I really needed a get away, made my reservation on line, got a room at $125.00, it was perfect, right below the breakfast deck, it was beautiful, bathroom was done in slate, I have to do this in my house. I did notice older unit down by the water, would have liked to try those rooms but they were sold the whole of my stay, maybe next time. Breakfast was great, fresh Papayas and pineapples, great place to collect your thoughts.

Be Wary
By ,
We were looking for a place away from Waikiki and weren't looking for high surf. On line and in discussion with the reservation agent, this sounded like the place. At $125 per night (agreed, not really high as Hawaii rates go), we expected something more than we got. This is a 1950s vintage resort that hasn't seen much updating since. It was evident that we had made a mistake as we drove down the lane to get there (cars up on blocks and the reception area). To be fair, sheets and towels were clean, but the positives stop there. A hole in the front porch that was covered with carpet, a board on the floor that I suspect was covering a hole in the floor in the bathroom, railing that was rotting away, poor parking, overgrown "landscapng", worn amenities, a Super 8 quality breakfast, noise from our adjoining rooms were all a part of the Hawaiian charm. It was soooo nice that we spent all of our time except for sleeping, somewhere else. We have been travelling the world for more than 40 years and have stayed at a wide variety of places, good and bad. I, personally, have not been in a place as run-down since I stayed in a room for $5 per night over 30 years ago! Motel 6, Ibis, Knights Inn, former communist hotels, hostels all rate in front of the quality of this place. Other reviews rave about this place. People seemed nice enough. "Old World charm" and "away from the hustle of Waikiki" mean just flat worn out. Stay there if you like this sort of thing, but don't if you want any sort of quality. My own fault, but I feel taken.

Best-kept secret on Oahu!
By ,
For just a little over $100/night we had an incredible time, far from the crowds and commercialism of Waikiki. Imagine awakening to the birds singing in the mangrove trees leading to Kaneohe Bay, just yards away from your personal lanai. Upstairs on the public lanai you have an all-you-can-eat breakfast full of fresh island fruits (papaya halves, pineapple, etc.) to your heart's content, warm homebaked muffins, yogurt, lots of hot and cold choices. You can reserve kayaks and paddle wheels to take out onto the bay, ride on the boat Wednesday and Saturday to the middle of Kaneohe Bay to play volleyball (we're not kidding!) and snorkel the coral reef, and enjoy a delicious island dinner and entertainment Wednesday evening. ALL these amenities are included free with your stay there. Pool, hot tub, a view of the sunrise over the bay each morning...can we say anything better about this place? We three middle-aged couples LOVED IT!
