We wanted to stay! but we had to go home
By Karin, 01/13/10
Driving the coast way we as tourists passed Carlsbad...we saw the sign at Ocean Palms and spontaniously walked in to check the availability. At first we booked 2 nights...but actually stayed 5!! nice staff, good service, good rooms with kitchen and of course a great enviroment to relax.. cross the street for beach access, 1 min from the restaurants & evening pleasure ..3 min by car to the shops... Tip! rent a bike for at least 4 hours pleasure checking out the environment..! We are coming back!! Regards from the Netherlands

Cant beat the price and location
By Darla, 12/19/09
This place is one of the better hotels I have stayed at while traveling for business in San Diego. I have stayed here once a month for the last 2 years. They have my name on file and I get my same rate all year long, they know and greet me by name when I call or walk in the door. Unbelievable service and location. My last stay in November they upgraded me to a luxury suite for free. Nothing better than a mom and pop atmosphere across from the beach without all the wannabe attitude of a brand name hotel. Worth every penny since I get my personal discount, and would recommend this to other business travelers and families going on vacation.

Nice location; terrible management
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/18/09
NICE LOCATION. Terrible management; front desk people were rude, did not care, poorly informed about the Resort. Too bad because the location is excellent. Would not recommend it to anyone.

After 15 years I'm Back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/14/09
For Mother's Day I treated myself and family to a night at the Ocean Palms. Returning after fifteen years, now with grandchildren, I still love the value and location of this nostalgic resort but was very disappointed at the 4pm check in time. Also found the desk clerks were too comfortable to make promises they could not keep only to avoid dealing with situations. Other than these two issues I found the Ocean Palms to be the same family orientated beach resort I remember from the past.

Hawaii but cheaper!!! Ocean palms A+
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/29/08
Basically, this place kicks ass. Perfect for a weekend getaway with the wife, or a family vacation. The remodeled rooms are awesome and better than any room Ive stayed in Vegas. The old rooms, well, they are old, but thats why they are way cheaper I guess. Steps from the beach, firepits, BBQs, pool, jacuzzi, and of course the partying downtown. We stayed for a week this summer, despite what the reviews said, and we were very surprised at how angry these people are here... The prices werent cheap for the nice rooms, but we tried to get a room (a 2 bedroom like thiers) in Carlsbad 3 months prior and everything was booked full. Other places were more expensive and not even close to being as nice. So we figured why not, we are already booked for next summer! Taylor Scottsdale, AZ Anyway,

It has lost it's charm...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/01/08
The Ocean Palms Resort has a great location. The beach is just across the street and you can hear the surf at night. But, this would be a great place for an actual resort. I think OP is resting an old reputation. Me and my family have been going to the Ocean Palms for the past 8 years. My husband and I stayed there for a weekend recently. We booked a newer updated "Deluxe Mini Suite". The only thing about that was deluxe about that suite was the updated kitchen and bathroom. The bed was horrible. The mattress was encased in plastic and the linens were old and worn. The mattress was very old and "squishy". I would think for the amount of money they charged for this Deluxe suite that they could update their linens and mattresses. There also are no DVD's or VCR's in the room and they charged for internet service. It is like potluck staying at the Ocean Palms. I have stayed in their 2 bedroom Luxury Updated Suite and the bedding and mattresses were great. So when you book at the OP, you never know what you are going to get. Most of the staff are not English speaking, so it is hard to get any kind of service and the management doesn't seem to care. I'm not sure I will ever go back to the Ocean Palms.

I miss the old days...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/05/07
I am in the area at least 12 weeks out of the year for business and Ocean Palms felt like home. Now I am a stranger and when I called to book a romantic weekend with my husband, they did not care.

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/12/07
They show these nice beautiful rooms on their web site, well thats not what they all look like we stay in a 2 bedroom oh my it smelled like meldew, the carpet was so old, bathrooms had room to just stand up no bending, the kithen we were afraid to cook when we turned on the stove it started sparking. The front desk people are so rude. This place should be shut down.

Service is terrible
By Jan, 06/06/07
I didn't even stay there yet. Made a reservation and had to cancel the next day. I have been charged $307 and cannot get them to refund my card. I have been given the complete run around and am going to make sure no one I know ever stays there. I know a lot of Marines at Camp Pendleton and families in the area, we will get the word around.

Our favorite spot is gone--will go elsewhere
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/19/07
We've been going for 10 years and while a remodel/higher prices were inevitible for such an incredibly sweet spot, it's not worth the money now. Some of the remodel elements are cool (palm tree carvings, nicer BBQ area). Yet it all has the feel of an expensive vanity project at the expense of my wallet (the cars on display had a nicer set up than my rooms which had nowhere to put clothes--we lived out of suitcases for our one week stay). My kids loved the warm pool and we loved that there were always towels, both elements have been reduced along with the sweet, laid back service that had us coming back year after year.
