An Absolute \"JAMAIZING\" Experience
We JUST got back from an absolutely wonderful time at this resort and trust me, we ran in to a LOT of issues before we actually got there (airline and resort), but I would absolutely recommend this resort to ANYONE. This resort runs like a well-oiled machine.
MY OBSERVATIONS:
1) Pack LIGHT. My hubby and I only took carry-ons and we STILL over-packed.
a. 2 skirts, several tops and bikinis, and 1 nice dress/sandals for meals, a good pair of flip-flops and an outfit for travel is all I needed.
b. For women, bikini is the perfect resort double for undergarments. Don’t be left without your swimsuit--every time we didn’t have them, we wished we were wearing them.
2) Once you get through Immigration (it wasn’t busy when we were there, so it only took about 30 minutes) Sandals has a lovely lounge, didn’t know about it until we saw it. Lounge has Red Stripe on tap (grab a cup for the road, open beverages allowed) and other soda and finger foods waiting for you, sitting areas and Plasma TVs.
***If you need the restroom, hold it until you get to this lounge. Trust me***
3) It’s a 2 hour drive from Sangster to the resort, but even after the day of travel, that was one of my favorite parts of the trip. You got to genuinely see a beautiful country that you otherwise wouldn’t. We were supposed to stay in Montego bay, and because of this, we were so glad we didn’t.
4) The porters at the airport, and the drivers to and from the airport are not Sandals employees and make their earnings via tips.
5) When you get there, a Porter is there, waiting to hand you a damp washcloth fragranced with “Cherry Almond” I cannot tell you how perfect it is! And you can have a glass of champagne while you are checking in.
6) Stay on the Riviera (Ocean) side. Everything that you are going to want to do is over there with the exception of the fitness center and the “Main” pool.
7) If you can afford it, have an Oceanview room. The view is priceless, and sleeping w/ the balcony doors open allows you to feel the ocean breeze and sleep to the sound of the waves.
8) Because of this, we were up at 5am every morning, without an alarm (amazing, but that’s when the sun rises). Thus, we got to wander the beach all by ourselves for a couple hours before people started moving about. And even then by about 6:30, employees were out raking the beach, grooming EVERYTHING.
9) Snorkeling was amazing. There is a reef no more than 300 yards from the shore.
10) Housekeeping will clean your room between 10am and 5pm, so if you come back at 3pm and it isn’t done, don’t fret.
11) The Sandals gift shop was very reasonably priced for souvenirs and slightly expensive for amenities, Please consider, those are imported from US so those prices are reasonable in Jamaica.
12) Drink the Ginger Ale/Ginger beer here, it’s AMAZING.
13) Drinks to try: Jamaican (or Appleton) Delight, Jamaican Smile.
14) The day before you depart, an envelope will be at your door telling you when to put your bags out, and when to check out and what time (and where) your bus departs, so you don’t have to stress about that.
15) Someone complained about the check out time. Yes, it’s earlier than when your flight departs, but consider these factors:
a. you aren’t the only one from the resort going to the airport. And Sandals times these things for you.
b. You still need to arrive 2 hours early to the airport just as you would in US.
c. You still have to check-in w/ airline and go through Immigration to depart.
d. Our check-out time was 7:30, but departure from SGOR was 8:45am, so we ate a leisurely breakfast and everything first.
