Find your peace here
By cathy, 5/27/10
This is my first time stay in Tranquil House Inn. I have to say I couldn't ask for anything more. One thing you could not find in other inns or hotels is the people. They make you feel home and the reason many people come back over and over again. That's where the trust came from. The food is great. You have to try it. Because it is the best restaurant in town and they really know food.

"THE" place to stay....
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/17/09
Our 26 anniversary and stayed here on recommendation from a friend. Had never visited OuterBanks area before. This inn is a gem. Innkeepers friendly and helpful. Room was lovely. In-town location wonderful. Access to local attractions and OuterBanks couldn't be better. Marina or street view equally appealing. Street view overlooks quaint village. Nighttime noise is non-existent. In house "1587" restaurant is exceptional. Pricey, but well worth it, especially if you appreciate great food with discriminating presentation. Only dislike was that bed was slightly uncomfortable relative to other hotel/inns we have visited ( Nantucket, MA, New Hampshire, Asheville, to name a few). Also, village businesses tend to close early, so evening strolls with expectations to browse shops, enjoy an ice cream or coffee is very limited. That said, plan to return before season is over.

Loved our stay!
By ElleP, 8/17/08
My partner and I stayed at Tranquil House and had a wonderful room looking out onto the bay (13). Everything was clean, comfortable and the room had above average appointments. I was there on business and got up at sunrise (summer). It was a breathtaking and certainly tranquil experience walking out on the "boardwalk" pier. Staff was busy but friendly. Continental Breakfast was average, but eating out on the deck made up for it. A lovely place! I just made reservations for the same room for later this month.

Simply awesome...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/3/07
Have stayed at the Tranquil House on two occasions...both times the stay was simply delighful. Quiet, relaxing, and delighful atmosphere is what the stay is all about. Rooms are so nicely furnished...not your typical "hotel" room! The relaxing view of the water behind the Inn is awesome. Just a wonderful place to get away to...The wine and chesse in the afternoon only makes the stay even more enjoyable. The restaurant, 1587, has to be one of the BEST in the Outer Banks. No it is NOT a seafood buffet....it's better with tastes that simply explode in your mouth. The experience was incredible. A must to eat there if in the area.

Love the Tranquil House!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/28/07
I've stayed at Tranquil House many times over the last ten years. Lovely inn, great location, nice people. Beds are very comfortable. Rooms very clean. Afternoon complimentary wine and cheese on the deck overlooking the Shallowbag Bay is very relaxing. Restaurant excellent. My only complaint is no elevator. Take a short walk across the Cora Mae Basnight Bridge beside the Tranquil House and you're at the Roanoke Island Festival Park. Exceptionally talented students from the North Carolina School of the Arts perform there afternoons and evenings in the summer - wonderful performances!!!

Anything but tranquil
By John, 9/21/06
Our room was anything but tranquil. When I made the reservation, asking for a king with water view (and paying a premium) no mention was made of the fact that the room was OVER THE KITCHEN! The hood fan below came on at nine thirty, and when I called to inform them of the noise and vibration, they told me it would be off at 11:30! Hard to sleep with that. At the desk the next day, when I complained, they said that they would take the information down so that my record would indicate that I didn't want that room in the future! Some consolation, huh? The restaurant had fair to good food, although the service was spotty.. I think they just don't get it overall.
