Boston Hotel Buckminster, Boston

The beds were too hard for me. No hot water for the shower for one day. There were old elevators. Cramped hallways. The room was dirty. I wouldn't stay here again.

What a horrible hotel. I've slept in hotels all over this fine country and this is the worst in recent memory . As a business traveler i really am only looking for a clean, quite room with some sort of internet. This hotel fails at all 3. Rooms were out right dirty walls were thin. Other guests (in some cases tenets) are loud. The only saving grace was the staff was very very nice. However that doesn't really make up for the poor product. In addition every room has a tv and a microwave on a light duty extension cord which did not seem like a good idea to me. Clearly every corner is cut in upkeep

We just stayed at the Buckminster for the first time, and we’re already planning to go back. The location is great – right next to Fenway and just steps from Kenmore Station. The hotel is classic vintage and although they have updated the amenities, it retains its vintage charm through its curving marble staircases and gilded moldings. The rooms are of average size, the bathrooms on the small side but impeccably clean and decked out in marble. (Give the water a little time to get warm, though!) The beds have firm mattresses and lots of fluffy pillows. There’s a fridge and microwave in every room, and a very good continental breakfast is included. The food was simple and nothing unusual but nice and fresh and they brought out more every time we turned around. The staff was unfailingly friendly and helpful. The price couldn’t be beat. Don’t expect a cookie-cutter chain hotel, but if a beautifully-maintained vintage sounds like your kind of place, then you’ll love the Buckminster.

Just put it this way - if youre the high maintanance type to only fly 1st class, this may not be the place for you. But if you ride greyhound or the subway etc this hotel is not a bad deal. In this hotel, you get bang for your buck (pun intended). For one, I dont know why people complain about rude staff - youre here to sleep. But the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and when i got to the room the cable was off but momentarily it went back on. The room & bathroom - spotless, clean towels, although i did find a stain on the undersheet on the bed. But it just seems they tried to wash too many blankets at once. Another downfall is that all the rooms are non-smoking (due to boston city ordinance). Otherwise, I would definitely recommend this hotel. In a nutshell, If youre the type to lead a simple life, not complain about much and only require a basic place to stay, this will be like a 4-star. But if youre more of the prissy type or from the Mariott/sheraton crowd, then this place would be more of an upscale motel for you. Otherwise, this place is in the heart of Kenmore Sq, extremely central loaction, close to everything, including the Kenmore Subway station with access to trains heading off in four different directions. (B,C,and D inbound trains head to downtown on the same line so the frequency is great). If u choose to park outside because you are cheap, dont forget about the meter because you WILL wake up with a ticket. Other than that, there is not much at all to complain about this hotel, UNLESS you are looking for things to complain about. I only say that because a PERFECT hotel stay would get an A+. My last stay was at least a B, for the reasons stated above. Again for the Location Location LOCATION the value is GREAT.

Negatives: The TV did not work. I had 2 gift certificates and they would only accept one gift cert per stay! The stay was supposed to be a gift. Then front desk charged me twice for the balance! The bed was hard as nails and I woke up with a stiff neck & back. Positive: The price is fair and it is close to Fenway. I will be selling the other gift certificate......

While the Buckminster receives props for its proximity to attractions such as Boston University and Fenway Park, there are surely better hotels in the area. Unfortunately, a central location was not enough to make up for the pubic hairs we found on our pillows, or the long black ones we found underneath the suspiciously stained fitted sheets. It doesn't help that the labyrinthine hotel corridors look like something out of 'The Shining,' or that the 'continental breakfast' consists of bagels topped from a communal cream cheese bar. Don't let the marble lobby or the classy colonial name fool you-- if you're looking for a quaint New England hotel, this is so not the place for you.

Just returned from a stay at the Buckminster. Stayed there many years ago. It has been updated. It's old but has so much charm. The staff was great, friendly, helpful, great directions. Only thing I wish they had made known is you can take the T from the airport to within 2 blocks of the hotel. Would have saved us $40 cabfare. Took the T back to the airport and it cost us $4.00. The convenience to Fenway, which is what we were there for, is phenomenal. Restaurants abound in that area and the whole atmosphere of the Park is so enjoyable. And it's about two blocks from the Buckminster. We look forward to staying there many more times.

The Buckminster staff were helpful, friendly. The room with the mini-fridge was a comfortable place to relax after the game at Fenway. There is a 7-11 and wine/beer store down the block to get the essentials to store in the room. A McDonalds and banks also a short walk away. The place has historic charm, great value for the money, very clean and an easy walk to Fenway. Thanks to the staff at the Buckminster

We stayed here back in 2007 for St. Pats in Boston. Location-wise, the place was great for the money: especially for Red Sox games and anyone who wants to be near the T. Room-wise, they were pretty tiny and outdated, but no shocker to anyone who has ever spent time in a European hotel. If you want a place to crash at night while spending your days in Boston, this place will do pretty well. The Japanese place downstairs is a trip, too. Karaoke and great bento boxes.

The room was tiny, the bed was god awful and uncomfortable. The temperature cannot be controlled easily, bed spread and carpet seemed dirty. Found old shoes near bed, makes you think the room was never cleaned properly.
