Do not waiste your time.......
By Love South Haven, 1/16/12
One might think that at two hundred dollars a night and being on lake michigan that this could make for a romantic night out... WRONG.... Upon arrival and checking in we were not so welcomed. It was basically, here is your key and go to the back building. Not any kind of a greeting or welcoming or anything. Ok, so we go back to the back building and try to locate our room. I am not sure where the logic behind the numbers on the doors come from. We arrive in our room and it really kind of feels like a cheap dingy hotel. There was no heat on and when we finally figured out how to operate the fireplace it took 2 1/2 hours before I could remove my coat. Remember it is cold in Michigan in December, The setup is real cheezy and the bathroom was terrible. No soap, no anything other than some cheap towels and a soap dispenser on the wall. Had a few drinks with my hubby and decided to get into the hot tub, My hubby got the water all filled up and we crawled in and as my hand touched the sides of the tubs it was a greesy film, We had had the lights on low and when I felt this I had to get out adn turn the lights on so that I could see. It was grose.... There was a film all in the tub, looked like leftover from god only knows what. Needless to say the mood was ruined and the thought of what I had just set in made me sick. Went to lay down in the bed and was amazed at what was given as pillows, they were odd shaped and felt like a hard couch pillow with a pillow case over the top. I can say that I would have enjoyed my self more at a cheap hotel, This place does not deserve to be located on the lake, that is the only thing it has going for it, If you can imagine those hotels that people live in and pay for by the week, that is what this is like,, SAVE YOUR MONEY

overpriced
By E. Olson, 9/28/11
The location is great but disappointed that there was no beach to walk. More than anything was paying over $200 a night for a room with a jacuzzi do find out it was a little bathtub. The breakfast was good if you got there early but too many carbs and when you are there in September with abundant delicious apples it seems wrong not to support the local farmers. Decorations were average - and beds were okay. It did not look like the bedspreads were cleaned each time. A/C was not working well enough to cool room. South Haven though is filled with great restaurants, especially The Phoenix and friendly people. We loved the food at Su Casa too.

Wonderful weekend with friends
By Carrie, 8/9/11
We all agreed that we would come back and liked this property very much! Had second thoughts about coming based on the negative reviews but we did not experience anything but a great time in a great location. The views are amazing, the property is very nice and the room was clean.

Fabulous Girls Weekend!
By Cara, 8/8/11
What a perfect place for a Girl's Weekend! We stayed in the larger building, and our room was nicely appointed and had a fabulous view of Lake Michigan. The owner and staff couldn't have been nicer and more accomodating. The breakfast was amazing. We were a little concerned by some of the negative reviews posted, but found that the location, room and service was perfect for our visit. It's great to support a family-owned business!

Non child friendly
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/2/11
As a parent I am appaled at the rudeness and level of professionalism that the owners and front desk people show there guests. This is suppose to be a family oriented place, or atleast they market it that way. As I was eating breakfast this morning in the lobby, I was shocked to see what occured. There was a family eating there breakfast and their baby boy started crying. Might of been crying about a minute when the front desk lady walked over and told the mom she and her son have to leave. She couldn't hear the phones and they didn't want crying children in the front desk area. Are you kidding me. The boy looked to be about 1yr old. Wasn't that loud. This is not a retirement home. This is a family hotel, right? Kids cry, it happens. Needless to say after seeing this and a few more things, I will not be returning as a guest. Views are great, but if you want to be treated with respect and proper manners, find another place to stay. South Haven as a whole is worth it.

Poor Customer Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/31/11
We received horrible customer service. Our room was not cleaned in the three days we stayed there because our baby was sleeping when the maid came by and they didn't return. When we complained, we were told that WE should have called THEM to tell them to come back and clean it. Since we had to pay up front, we did not get any money off our bill for our messy room. The owner had very limited information about South Haven and told me she could give me the number to the visitor's center. While the view is lovely and the pools are very nice and well maintained, there is NO customer service!

Many years of wonderful memories!!!!!!!!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/20/11
As a child my parents brought us here for our summer vacations. It was a place as a child that we just loved. Swimming to our hearts content and the bonfires at night were awesome. Now after being married for 20 years we have brought our children here for probably 18 of those years. Every year when we asked where they wanted to go they always said "LAKE BLUFF"!!!!!! It is awesome for a family with the swing set, sand box, open yard for plenty of activities and both of the pools. The owners and the staff over the years have been extremely courteous and we have never had any of the problems that the other reviews talk about. I can't believe any one of us can say our home is bug free. It is no different than that!!!!!! I have been in other hotels and there is no difference. Keep up the good job and we will be coming back for many more years to come.

Paper thin walls. Smelled of Mildew.
By Engineer Martin, 7/10/11
I'm not a fan. When we first stepped in my wife immediately noticed the smell of mildew in the room. We were hoping it was just a smell (it was not strong and we got used to it quickly) but then the wife had to take an antihistamine in the middle of the night because she was having some sort of allergic reaction to something in the room (we suspect mildew because we didn't have any problem any other time on the trip while outdoors. The decor was very odd as well. Granite counter tops on our mini kitchen but super low end carpeting and sheets. The towels in our room had the name of the hotel stamped on them in permanent ink in a prominent not real classy "Don't steal me" kind of way. And the most unforgivable thing in my opinion was the complete lack of sound insulation. The wife and I were watching some TV around midnight at a very reasonable volume when we received some very loud bangs on our shared wall with the next room apparently indicated we were being too loud. This was later confirmed by the conversations that we could hear through the wall (that they were having in a normal speaking voice) the following morning. For what I paid for a room I would expect a hotel room of higher caliber. Indeed, our room seemed to have more in common with very nicely renovated shed. If anyone else I know gets married there we'll stay someplace else. (Great view though)

Horrible customer service with a view
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/27/11
We came with a wedding party since there web-site states that it's a great place for large groups and weddings. On the first night we were there , we were 'too loud' and the owners came to our room and ruding asked us to keep it down. At that point we had 4 people in the room and we were watching tv. It was about 12:30am, the way we were treated past that point was unacceptable. Our group was the 'college friends' but all of us are in our late 20's and are professional and respectable people. The next day when I asked for extra towel, the owner seem to make a new policy for our group and was trying to charge us with a deposit for towels! 200 dollar / a night and you want a deposit for towels? The owners seemed to be straight up rude to other guests also, I saw them yelling at kids for kicking a soccer ball against a fence. It is clear that they do not know how to treat people and we will take our business else where. If you want to have a good time/play cards at night/ have a few drinks/ or want to stay up past 11pm then go somewhere else.

Horrible
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/11/11
Wow. This has to be the WORST place I have ever stayed. Bar none. We checked in after the drive from Chicago, only to spend at least 10 minutes trying to find our room. We were in room 34. It would be logical that room 34 would not be past room 45, right? Ehhhhhh....let's not jump to conclusions. We had to walk past room 42, 43, 44, 45, then 33, THEN found room 34. What? At this point we were already creeped out by our surroundings. As we slid the key into the lock (yes...they have actual keys, not keycards, we didn't know what to expect. Well....let's say we weren't greeted by a finely appointed, or even clean, room. The room looks like something out of the mid 70's. The bathroom is an absolute joke. The bath towel is about the size of our hand towels at home and they appear to be at least 20 years old. There are no bars of soap or bottle of shampoo. Instead, there are dispensers. In the shower, there is a dispenser for "Euro Bath" which is, according to the label, a "European body wash." Of course, it was empty when I attempted to shower. My wife called the front desk and was told that "there are no bars of soap, but a "thing" in the shower to use." She told her she knew and that the "thing" was empty. They said they'd send someone to fill it...never happened. The worst part of it all is that they charged us $109 a night for this hellhole and took payment up front. I don't know how in the hell they can get away with charging as much as they do, but somehow they do it. Stay away from this place!
