very basic accomodations

The beds were O.K. Within the last 5 years, It is the first hotel without a coffee pot or a refrigerator in the room. The restaurant was elegant, not for family dinning. The service was good from the porter and the maids. Kind of a cool treatment when I asked employees at the desk information for a close restaurant outside of the hotel.

Sofitel Hotel, Redwood City, CA
By The Dark Elf, 9/25/06
For the Bay area, this hotel is very nice and inexpensive; within 10 miles of SF Int'l Airport, and near many high tech firms. The hotel has a free shuttle to/from the SF Int'l Airport, but you have to call them and tell them you're a guest of the hotel for them to actually come and pick you up. Their staff doesn't quite know how to handle or interact with non-business travellers. It didn't seem matter that I was a hotel guest or stayed for a few days, some of their front desk people seriously need to take a customer service course. I suppose business travellers get better service. If I were to stay in the area again, I might want to find a hotel that's closer to better eating areas, or has a concierge desk that knows where the good eateries are. Expensive doesn't even begin to describe how food is priced as the hotel.

Horrible
By Scotto, 11/6/05
I was a speaker at a conference at this hotel. I called 3 days before the conference to book a room and they told me NO ROOMS. Even though I'm a speaker at the conference (and, supposably, they had rooms reserved for speakers). LOUSY service. TERRIBLE phone personnel (I got a 'too bad.. go away' tone).

Bonjour!
By Lupe, 6/9/05
The location is remote and not close to anything touristy, but the hotel itself is beautiful. With a real french flair, it relaxing atmosphere is a true delight. Wonderful food at the restaurant and live entertainment make for a great night out without needing to leave the hotel!

Magnifique!
By Chi Yu, 9/11/04
This hotel has it all: courteous and sincere service, well-appointed accomodations, superior value, beautiful view (of lagoon and Oracle HQ), and a french bakery/restaurant. The staff is predominately French and very well-schooled in providing customer satisfaction; skills likely honed while servicing Oracle sales reps and execs. The noise insulation is superior to that of many other 4-5 star hotels. It's the only hotel I've been to that offers a completely noise-less draining tub. The beds are much better than average and include down comforters and pillows. I first visited the hotel in 2002 and again in 9/2004. The hotel is well maintained and shows little sign of wear and tear. I recommend it to anyone visiting San Francisco or the Peninsula.

INSIDER TIPS: 1. Check their website for last-minute promotions and internet-only rates. 2. The bakery opens early and offers a "Breakfast Trio", large hot beverage, large fresh squeezed orange juice, and pastry for just $7. 3. Overnight valet is only $10, but you might as well self-park as it's free and just steps from the lobby. Compare that to the $40 valet parking in the city!
