InterContinental San Juan Resort Spa and Casino, Carolina

As you might expect from the name, this hotel is inter-continental and offers great views. Rooms were nice size and very clean. Staff was helpful and attentive. Hotel is connected to the convention center and across the street. I would recomment this hotel for business or vacation.

Plus (1) Do not get confused by the maps. It is located right on the beach! (2) There is a decent restaurant right on the beach where you can sip on Medalla and admire the ocean (3) Alfredo's has great breakfast and their fetuccine is highly recommended (4) If you want ocean view ask for 7th floor or above Negatives (1) Poor service: they did not get my bags to the room for 4 hours (2) Calls to front desk can take as much as 10 minutes. Room service took 40-45 minutes (3) Rooms are clean but it is a old hotel with old furniture, ocean-view balconies are standing room only (4)

They have their own rules to the games. Lost a big pot in poker because I turned one card first then the other and the dealer mucked my winning hand claiming it had to be exactly at the same time . He payed the local player without even waiting for a resolution from the casino manager. And this was during the showdown. They didn't look at the cameras or anything.... I would stay away from this casino......

My husband and I just returned from the Intercontinental Hotel . We enjoyed the location because it was convenient to the beach, restaurants, and a few stores. We liked the beach and the pool very much, however if you got to the pool too late ( 9:00am there were usually no lounge chairs available. People would hold several chairs at the pool and then spend the day at the beach. We liked the pool staff, but the front desk was usually under staffed . this was a problem when checking out because there was a long wait since only 2 staff members were available. We also found the gentleman at the Concierge very helpful, however Rosie never went out of her way at all . The Spa was clean and staff was very helpful.

The overall experience was great. The hotel was pretty and clean, the rooms were spacious enough and the staff was friendly. The swimming pool areas were beautiful and the beach was great! Our visits to local restaurants were cheaper...Our visit to Old San Juan was wonderful...the history, the food, the shopping and of course the nightlife! One or two suggestions....they attempted to charge us for towels by the pool, saying they weren't returned but no one told us to and we left them there before. The casino closes on Good Friday and I wasn't aware of that as that was the night I planned to go, others were not aware either. Overall...a great vacation.

My husband and I stayed here in May 2009. We had a private wedding on the beach, and stayed 3 days for our honeymoon. Location is great, right on the beach with restaurants and stores in walking distance. There was a swim up bar for drinks, and the staff was so nice. Also loved the casino. But there was no refrig in the room for bringing back left over food. And there was a $300 deposit, that we did not know about. Overall, a good hotel.

We were offered an upgrade for a little more money when we checked in; we chose the ocean/poolside view. To go out on the balcony in the morning was a vacation all by itself. Never have I been in a hotel with a view like we had there. It was absolutely breath taking! They have their own private beach with chairs and towels that are included in with the price of the room. The bar on the beach was charming, but the drinks were pricey and just awful. I guess I expected a good rum drink in the home town of Bacardi. We took a walk along the beach in the morning and in the late afternoon just before dark. The beach was safe, and never once did I feel unsafe. The staff at the pool and beach were the best. We found the bar staff to be indifferent, although it was nice sitting on the beach, looking out over the ocean in the evening watching cruise ships come and go, sipping on our watered down drink. Those people who said it is even more beautiful in person than in the photographs are correct. Pictures just don't do it justice. This was literally a slice of paradise in February. The food prices at the hotel were insanely expensive. The concierge told us about a small Mom & Pop restaurant that served local food. We ate there every day for just a little over $10 (for both of us). You've got to be a little adventuresome to try the local cuisine, but we found it very good except for the fried plantains which were kind of tasteless. The rest of the food was very good. The owners spoke Spanglish, and it was no problem for us. There is a Walgreen's just down the street to pick up whatever you forgot at home. We didn't walk outside after dark, just in case. I would definitely recommend this outstanding hotel to anyone going to San Juan. I hope to return there soon and will save up my money until I can go to the InterContinental again. I think after the great experience we had there, anything less may be a disappointment.

Saying that I am frugal overall is probably an understatement but I have been getting more balanced in this area over the years. With that said, I was on vacation and payed the price to stay at this hotel. Overall, a beautiful hotel with well layed out facilties that face the bay. Everything has a price and the average price is well over $200.00 per night. Hotels overall are more expensive than what you would expect to pay in the States. Everything is San Juan is more expensive than in the states, add about 20% to everything. This hotel was rated #1 in the area and would state that the rating is appropriate. Also stayed at the Caribe which was fabulous. The benefit of staying at this hotel is that reasonably priced franchised restaurants are in walking distance. Prices on the grounds are expensive as stated in other reviews. Ask for a room facing the pools and water. Wish that I was there to join you. Don't miss spending time both on the beach and at the pool. Overall an exceptional experience for a guy who normally would not want to pay the price to stay at a hotel like this.

Hotel is a little over rated. our stay was more like a 2 star hotel exeprience. Some staff were great. Some did not care and no idea we're a guest at the hotel and paid to stay there. There was Hotel got caught on fire. T help at all. Employee and including Manager is totally clueless and lost. For the money we spent was not worth it.

My husband and I went to the Intercontinental from Wed. to Sun. We had a wonderful time. The hotel is beautiful and very clean. There was not one bug in the room. All staff was extremely helpful and respectful. The pool, jacuzzi, and ocean were perfect temperatures. I enjoyed the spa on 2 occasions. The restaurants are great. Don't miss Brother Jimmys BBQ on top of the El San Juan Hotel next door. Take the bus for $ .75 to Old San Juan. Lots of culture, shopping, and good food. I would go back tomorrow and I am a very picky traveler. Be prepared to spend a lot of $ on food.
