Terrible
We are extremely displeased with the service and hotel quality during our stay at the Holiday Inn Southwest Viking Saint Louis.
It all started with our first attempt to check in on Saturday. We arrived at the hotel at 3:00 p.m. We carried most of our luggage to the front desk, only to learn that we would have to wait at least another hour for our room... so, we got to repack everything into the vehicle. During the attempted check-in, I was appauled by the tone and complete lack of courtesy given by the gentleman (oaf) behind the counter.
Other issues we had with the hotel...
1) Their web site lead us to believe that kids eat free... not true. The only meal we ate there happened to be Sunday brunch. We learned (upon presentaion of the tab) that kids eat free the rest of the time, perhaps.
2) Their elevator had mechanical problems and would not function on two occasions. We had to use the stairs both times.
3) On Monday, we were surprised to find a "Caution Wet Floor" sign in the elevator! Have you ever seen this before? I have stayed in hotels for 43 years and have not seen such irresponsible, hazardous conditions.
4)The rooms were not at all as pictured on their web site. Our room was rather small and very dated.
5) The hotel has posted signs in the rooms that tell guests to "Please reuse your towels" to "conserve water". Ridiculous! They are just cheap. This at a "3-Star" hotel?
6) Nothing but two bars of soap in the bathroom. No shampoo. No conditioner. No lotion. This at a "3-Star" hotel?
7) They would not grant us a late check out time. The same oaf that we delt with at check-in asked how late we needed to check out. We requested 2:00 p.m. He said he could give us until 12:00 p.m. (which is their normal check out time)!
8) The coffee maker in the room would only serve one cup of coffee and once it overflowed and made a big mess. It probably cost the hotel less than $10.00. Can you say cheap?
9) Sunday morning and Monday morning we noticed all the other guests had a copy of USA Today placed at their door. Because we were Priceline customers, I suspect we were excluded from such grand ammenities.
10) The overall condition of the hotel was very dated. It had an odor of stale, musty air.
11) The air conditioner in our room was the old window-box type. It was extremely noisy. This from a "3-Star" hotel?
12) There was no continental breakfast offered. The only breakfast dining was in their restaurant, at a significant charge.
Our travels kept us in St. Louis one day longer than planned. We asked about how we would extend our stay. We were told that in order to get the same price, we would need to book the room through Priceline again. Does this make sense?
Our experience was so poor, that we decided to change hotels for the last day of our visit to St. Louis. We changed to the Drury Inn in Chesterfield, MO. They gave us an early check-in of 8:00 a.m. on Monday as well as a late check-out of 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, no problem.
Would you please consider changing your rating of this hotel? I really do not see how a 3-Star rating would apply to Holiday Inn Southwest Viking Saint Louis.
