good value

this hotel is a chain hotel, so you may lose some "local charm", but there are no suprises, what you see is what you are going to get. on comparison with hotels in the states i would say it is comparable to the hampton inn. the staff were friendly, but the support staff such as maids didn't speak english well, but the staff that had to deal primarily with customers were all fluent and very helpful.
the rooms were clean, i stayed in the crowne plaza st james on the next trip and paid a ton more and got the same level of luxury and clenliness. the breakfasts were great, even if you only got the continental you left the table stuffed!
one perk was that they were very flexible, allowing early check in and holding our bags for us without charge.
the location is nice, the neighborhood is nice and quiet, you can't top it if you are travelling with kids. but other than walk to park and see kensington palace there is not much to do, with young children you are not within walking distance of westminster where the major sights are, but it is only a few blocks from the tube stop.
really, don't let other reviews turn you off, this is a great hotel for the price, and having stayed at others and paid more, and gotten less you really are getting four star quality here.
