The Number 9 gets you home
By ,
The location for this place is great.Close to the tube, hop on and off bus tours and the bus that gets you home, Remember , danger comes from the right when crossing the road. We stayed in two rooms with our teenage kids. We never ate at the restaraunt, but had pints over footie games in the afternoon and the breakfast was decent. Our room was a good size and looked directly upon the palace. The kids room was average for the U K. Elevators were slow but remember, this is a fairly old hotel. Our son made friends at the local pubs, Check out The Goat )and our vegetarian daughter was able to find fare all over.

decent

very creep dark long hallways with annoying swing doors, which made it hard to lugg luggage to your room. Decent Breakfast and nice sized cute rooms. Beds werent amazing but comfterble. Overall a decent hotel in a great location.

Very poor
By ,
The first room we were given was very small and unclean. The bathroom door would not close and the toilet handle was broken. The window in the bathroom was held in place with tape and the paint was falling from the walls. 24 hours after compaining we were moved to an 'executive' room which was bigger but not much better. We will not go back.

Ok for the price
I stayed here not long ago for a week - I had the smallest room you can imagine - couldnt even open the closet door - it hit the bed. Very tired old hotel - the halls are bizarre - they are ramped up and down. Heat didnt work. I was staying by myself so the room size didnt matter much. I did have a nice view - with a little balcony - it was nice. The windows leak tons of cold air - thank goodness the weather was somewhat mild. Breakfast was good - I did have to fight for my free breakfast. It was an ok place for the money - You get what you pay for in London.

good value
By ,
this hotel is a chain hotel, so you may lose some "local charm", but there are no suprises, what you see is what you are going to get. on comparison with hotels in the states i would say it is comparable to the hampton inn. the staff were friendly, but the support staff such as maids didn't speak english well, but the staff that had to deal primarily with customers were all fluent and very helpful. the rooms were clean, i stayed in the crowne plaza st james on the next trip and paid a ton more and got the same level of luxury and clenliness. the breakfasts were great, even if you only got the continental you left the table stuffed! one perk was that they were very flexible, allowing early check in and holding our bags for us without charge. the location is nice, the neighborhood is nice and quiet, you can't top it if you are travelling with kids. but other than walk to park and see kensington palace there is not much to do, with young children you are not within walking distance of westminster where the major sights are, but it is only a few blocks from the tube stop. really, don't let other reviews turn you off, this is a great hotel for the price, and having stayed at others and paid more, and gotten less you really are getting four star quality here.

Terrible
By ,
Stayed here for seven days in'05. Probably the worst hotel we ever were in. Shabby room, old, dirty, dingy, bath room. Furniture with springs coming out of the fabric - no joke. We had the "internet rate" which was great - but could not up grade. Had to use wadded up newspapers to stick in the gaps of the windows to keep from rattling. Go at your own risk!!!

Convenient location
By ,
I spent four nights at the Thistle Kensington Park this summer. The front desk staff and concierge staff were friendly and helpful. The staff in the restaurant and bar - horrid! Yes, the halls are very narrow, but my room was large and comfortable. The duvets fabulous, the towels-large. The hotel was convenient and close to many attractions. I got my room on Priceline making it an incredible bargain - less than $80USD per night! I would definitely stay again at that price!

Great location, nice property
By ,
This hotel is located in a very nice neighborhood, and is great for access to Hyde Park and the Royal Albert Hall. It's a couple of blocks to the closest Underground station, but the walk is down Gloucester Rd, which is full of eateries and small shops. The lobby and public areas are very modern, and resemble American hotels more closely than some other properties we visited. There was ample room in these areas to meet with our friends with some semi-privacy. The guest rooms were small compared to American hotels, but they were clean and modern. The beds were VERY comfortable. Despite the price, which is higher than I would have wanted to spend, (but then EVERYTHING in London is like that!), I would recommend this property to friends and other travelers.
