STAY CLEAR- BED BUGS- FILTHY- NO REFUNDS
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/3/11
I am not a picky traveller...usually travel on a tight budget and have stayed in hostels throughout Europe, South East Asia and South America and they are mountains above in cleanliness than the Swiss Acres. I booked online sight unseen, reading reviews and thinking people were being picky and how bad could it be?! Looking forward to a ski trip at Whiteface, we arrived at 11PM after a 6 hour drive from Ontario, exhausted and just wanting a place to sleep. We checked in and they billed us for two nights immediately. We got to our room and immediately found the following issues that are unacceptable and I find it hard to believe AAA certified this place. We would have left right away but we had arrived as the office was closing for the night. * the bathroom was filthy- with urine on the walls around the toilit and mold throughout the shower/ tub. * the front door did not lock * the bedspread/ comforter had black short hairs on the underside of it. (Note: both my husband and I are blonde) I did not care that the room was dated and panelling falling off, carpet torn and heater taped in to the wall...or the overpowering car air freshener smell that covered up who knows what other smells...these things would not bother me at all if the room had been clean. I could not sleep all night... woke up feeling itchy and with things crawling on me. In the morning I found red bites on my feet and ankles and inside of my wrist. I am assuming that they were bed bugs or fleas although I could not find any in the light. I went to the front desk to let them know that we would not be staying the second night and were told we would not receive a refund unless they could book the room that night- which no one would/ did. I decided to take to $89 loss and book elsewhere. We booked at the Comfort Inn instead and it was luxery compared to the Swiss Acres for only a fraction more in cost. I am not a picky traveller...and loved our time in Lake Placid but want to save any other unassuming online bookers the $$$ and disappointment and advise to stay clear of this place.

Worse hotel ever
By doron, 8/18/10
We stayed at a cabin for two nights. It looked like never been cleaned before. Shades where broken. Bath was broken. Not enough forks.spoons ... The free breakfast is only a toast and egg. The kids refused to return the next morning.

terrible service
By Brenda, 8/4/10
we stayed for ironman2009 - rooms were not as described. Rented a suite- bathroom was no bigger than a closet and kitchenette was barely functional....... website was misleading and some staff were just down right rude. Paid very high rates for a subpar experience.

Horrible
By Anne, 7/2/07
We were really disappointed by this motel. First off, everything seemed to be broken. The sauna was not working (or maybe they didn't care to turn it on?). Some kids splashed all of the water out of the jacuzzi so they had to refill it. The front desk worker forget to turn the hose off (until I informed him that the jacuzzi was overflowing...).At least the health club access and "game room " were very good. Their breakfast was a joke. They refused to give us a free breakfast coupon for my kids. Their reasoning: we don't charge for kids to stay here, so we can't let them eat free. That makes no sense. At all the hotels I've ever stayed at, kids stayed AND ate free. Their brochure clearly says "free breakfast with every room". That breakfast doesn't even include a beverage. The service at their restaurant is horrible, though. They don't have enough waiters so you wait forever for your food and any kind of service. We made the mistake of eating dinner there the first night, and the food was horrible. At least they try to accomodate their guests (unlike the motel). As almost every motel in Lake Placid, it looks pretty run-down (I guess the last time they did anything was before 1980 Olympics). The rooms are old, too. For $90, it is definitely not a good deal, but there aren't many other good options.

Terrible service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/2/07
Microscopic suites, old buildings, paper thin walls. But the main thing is - they do not respect their customers!!! They did not serve free hot breakfast as was stated on the website. Instead of trying to compensate me for their own mistake (or lie?) they just humiliated me by offering $3 (!!!) refund (3 persons, two nights!). No one talked to me but the front desk clerk, no one of the management addressed the issue, no one contacted me afterwards inspite of my complaints. Do not stay there.

We're making it a tradition.
By Jonathan, 12/29/05
The staff took great care to make sure we had everything that we wanted. There were a couple of features that we thought were available in the room that we requested that weren't actually there, so they made up for it in other ways. They were very friendly and welcoming. We are making it a tradition to come every year on our anniversary.

staying there for the holidays
By Teri, 12/27/05
I really liked the lobby and restaurant/bar area. It is a very cozy setting with fireplace and cabin-like decor. The amenities were the main reason we picked this place (indoor pool, jacuzzi, fireplace, bar/restaurant, etc.). However, we were not informed that all these would be closed during christmas. All we were told was that the restaurant would be closed, and that there would be no one at the lobby to give us the key when we arrived on 24th. We couldn't even get ice or coffee during our stay because everything was closed! I just wished that they would have been very clear about this, that all we were getting was a room, nothing else. Speaking of the room, it is a very clean, nice room (standard room), but the walls are definitely thin. When everything finally opened on 26th, we visited the restaurant, and it was excellent! The staff were friendly, and the food was great.

So awesome
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/24/05
This was the best hotel! I went there with my skating team and the rooms were so spacious and cozy. There was complimentary breakfast everyday and it was great value for our money. I would love to go back.
