14 reviews for Glenmore Plaza Hotel, Catalina Island
The best service I have ever recieved at a Hotel.
By T.J., 02/12/09
I have been to Vegas, San Francisco, Monterey and even Orlando, Florida. But the people at the Glenmore were Fantastic! We went the the day after Christmas in 2006. We got the budget package and a room right behind the tree on the second floor. It was raining and we both were sick with that crud that everyone had then. Upon arriving at the dock, we were greeted by the driver from the hotel and driven to the front door. The hotel is the oldest hotel on the island, and after it's renovation is like stepping back in time to Catalina's heyday. We went up the stairs to our room and were greeted with warm colors, a flat screen TV and a bed so comfortable I swore it was memory foam. Even as sick as we were, I have never slept so sound. They recommended to eat at Steve's Steak House, it was worth every cent. After we checked out the next day we were able to leave our luggage with them and explore more of Catalina. They called us on our cell phone when it was time to go back to the boat and dropped us off. I will always stay at the Glenmore when visiting the island.

Charged for making a reservation
By Carnival Spirits, 12/22/08
I made a reservation for this hotel and three hours later I found out we cannot make the trip after all. I called to cancel the reservation and discovered they have already charged my card and now want to charge a 10% cancellation fee. I was told they had a 72 hour cancellation policy when we made the reservation. The reservation is 7 days out. Avoid this hotel.

Fun Experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/25/08
It was a fun experience and great location. However, our rooms didn't have phones and there is no elevator. They didn't let us know that the continental breakfast was served in the lobby and we had to go get it.Other than that everything was fine it was good for a three day weekend get away.

Very Noisy
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/25/08
We were expecting a quaint & cozy place. Bad points: 1) run down 2) musty smell 3)thin walls, much noise from people walking down the halls all night long and from routy people outside late at night 4)bed creaks when you roll over and is uncomfortable 5) they advertise views, but we had a view of a wall Good point: Staff is friendly and helpful

Run down waste of money
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/22/08
The place is old and has paper thin walls. Obviously they don't put anything back into the place. They require 3 night minimums at ridiculous prices...

Noisy!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/05/07
The Glenmore Plaza Hotel is right across the street from the Chi Chi Club, which had music blasting during our stay, until 3AM, two nights in a row. The windows in our room literally vibrated. The second night we bought earplugs which allowed us to get a little more sleep. Unfortunately, we came home from our stay tired, and needing a vacation from our vacation.

Live the History
By Tad, 02/13/07
This a a very cool funky Hotel. As one of the oldest hotels in California it has definite style. For an old place the rooms are lively the beds comfy and the bathrooms up to date. It is a bit noisy because you are right in the center of everything. A quiet hotel would not have such a great location close to the water. The staff was very helpful, my first call to this hotel was made me decide to stay.

Quaint & Charming
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/23/06
The service and front desk were very pleasant and helpful. The continental breakfast was adequate. Location great, just under a block from the water. We had a courtyard view room, which looked into a small courtyard and felt somewhat exposed, so we kept the curtains drawn. The room sloped severly, but this is an old building and most establishments here. The decor was nice. We were here for the jazz festival and after talking with many others, felt that we had picked the right accommodations at a good price.

only in a jam
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/09/06
The lobby was great, the only comfortable place in the hotel, my room was a closet, I kid you not, a closet. The staff were friendly however it was always "I'm alone right now can it wait",an over flowing toilet should not have to wait. I sat in the dark the first night due to a faulty lamp. My reservation were made a week in advance and it was made for 1 adult and 2 teenagers, they gave me a room with 1 bed, needless to say we rotated and everyone got thier turn on the dirty floor, oh did I mention that the maid never came until the day we left. Do not stay here if you have another choicemmake sure you have 2 beds if thats what you need I was promised and upgrade as soon as it was available but it seems it never happened, they were not even slightly embarrased that I knew thry were taking advatage of a mom and her kids.

By Donny, 02/19/06
There was nothing we didn't love about this hotel, from getting off the boat and seeing the hotel van waiting for us gave us a family like atmosphere as far as the way we were treated, we will definitely go back to catalina and no way will we go to anywhere but the glenmore plaza hotel
