Very disappointed
By ACTOR, 10/15/09
We were very disappointed in our stay at the Marriott, it was not worth the money. It took forever to get into a room. And then we were not given the room with a view we were promised. The construction sounds were very annoying. The food on property was horrible. The staff was rude. Don't stay here, you will regret the $ you pre-paid to stay at this Marriott. I am a rewards member. And the way this trip went I am thinking of switching to another major hotel chain. As far as Kauaii goes, it is a very beautiful island. The hotel did not offer tansportation to the various activities offered on the island so a rental car is a must. Definietly rent a convertible. It's the best way to see the island. Make sure to plan your activities ahead of time becasue they do sell out. Try to book the activities direct as the hotel charges a hefty fee.

island perfection
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/09/09
The location is perfect and close to stores, fast food places and tours. Concierge service was excellent. Just about anywhere you eat in the hotel or nearby has ocean views. Very relaxing atmosphere for couples or families. We are looking forward to going back with the rest of the family.

to many problems at the Kauai Marriott
By tropictravelers, 08/28/08
We loved the pool at the Marriott and that it has a Duke's next door, whose staff couldn't be friendlier. It also has a convenient location if you are okay with being near the airport. What we don't like is that they seem to continually have problems which includes the parking lot that had a sink hole and took years to fix, the flooding that affected the first floor rooms near the pool, which may be what contributes to the smell and the planned power outages that they know about and don't notify their guests of prior to arrival. Instead they slip a note under your door that the power will be out for 3 nights for approximately 4 hours each night (1/2 the time you are in the room). This of course means no air conditioning or lighting, although they do have emergency lights. The service side by management is sorely lacking and our perception is that they aren't really interested in repeat business. Kauai is a beautiful island but the Marriott is no longer our choice for a hotel. We actually switched hotels and went to the Hyatt and it was beautiful.

Go every other year and always enjoy it.
By Todd, 08/05/08
We go to Kauai every 2 years and stay at the Marriott Kauai Beach Club and love it. The pool is great, the beach and ocean views are great, and the grounds are great. The golf course next door, the Kauai Lagoons, has beautiful views of the ocean and great service. I find the whole of Kauai to be more relaxed than Oahu or Maui. And I can really unwind at the Kauai Marriott. We usually spend a couple whole days of our week there just lounging by the pool.

Underwhelmed...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/27/08
We chose the Marriot because of friends' recommendations and the fact that we splurged on a hotel in Maui. For what the Marriot costs, it was not a nice hotel. The main lobby and common areas are a bit gaudy and over the top--HUGE pillars & planters & a coi pond. The rooms were outdated and smelled musty. We paid over $300/night and were very disappointed. I wouldn't recommend the Marriot to fellow honeymooners.

Great location!
By Michael, 06/26/08
The beach area is beautiful. It is a bay surrounded by high cliffs with nice gentle surf and no rocks. Great for playing, swimming, surfing. The grounds are nice and the rooms are as well. I had a partial ocean view room that overlooked both the pool and bay.

overall happy
By Aaron Wagner, 05/17/08
We enjoyed staying at the resort, in fact we didn’t realize how much until we was leaving on Tuesday night. I was a little sarcastic at first because it reminded me of when I lived on a small college campus, with the 5 towers like dormitories. We stayed in a garden view room, ground level looking out at a mound. At first I didn’t like it, and felt they were placing me in the room with expectations of me paying for an upgrade. We actually started liking the privacy of the room rather quickly. We could leave the curtain open getting natural light and not worry about anybody looking in. The room was stuffy, but when I asked for a fan it was provided within the hour. My other problem was the bathroom had no exhaust fan. As an advisory to those looking to book. Join the rewards program and take advantage of the corsair service, they are great, and the points add up quickly. But be advised on the way the credit card voucher works. They charge the full maximum amount you say on your card the day they receive the voucher, So be advised if you send the voucher in three months before your check-in you will be charged the maximum you have approved when your credit card is due that month that they receive the voucher. So you might pay two months before you stay. Any remaining balance will be replaced on your card three days after you check out. This is very good to know if you are say a honeymooner looking to use wedding gift money to pay for you honeymoon. But we loved the view of the cove and the mountains. While their people kept telling us about how nice the Princeville resort overlooking Hanalei bay is. But when we left I asked my wife which she preferred. The Princeville resort, we drove up north to see it to, or our stay at the Marriott plus the pearl necklace and Ming Hwa painting we got with the difference in price. She loves her necklace and pendent from Grandes Gems. Bother way the Jewelry store in the Princeville resort didn’t have a nicer pearl and we will have an incredible painting in our living room so we can watch the sunset from hideaways beach every night. We love the view of Hanalei bay and will be tempted to stay up north, but would probably find ourselves back at the Marriott again. The service was great from the staff.

kauai
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/26/08
This gets a five just because its in paradise. The staff was great and everything on the island is a short trip. Lihue has a wonderful small town feel. WHEN I go back, I coundn't image staying anywhere else. The resort is family oriented, and my 17 yr old and 8 year old both had plenty of activiites.
