Simple & Clean but don't expect any Fijian Charm
I have had 2 stays at this hotel. The 2nd stay was for a period of 14 days which gives me a chance to properly rate the hotel.
Holiday Inn, Suva, Fiji is a nice, clean, quiet and comfortable place to stay. The rooms are large with nice furniture and fittings. The bathrooms are very nice, very clean and everything works how it should. The hotel is on the ocean front within easy walking distance of the city shops and restaurants.
Breakfast on my first stay was the worst I have ever eaten and at FJ$28-00 a head. I complained by writing those words "This is the worst breakfast I have ever eaten" across the invoice. Without question, the Receptionist removed the 2 breakfast charges from the invoice. I understand this is part of a guarantee Holiday Inn have regarding guest satisfaction.
The pool is medium size and there is a small pool for toddlers. There is no spa. There is a nice bar and club-like area, restaurant and small business centre equipped with full time dialup internet connection. The rooms do not have an internet connection but you can connect to the phone line if you have a service provider. I used a prepayment card with a local internet provider but I found the line was so bad in the room for an internet connection that I kept being cut off regularly. Most frustrating.
I got the feeling that the staff at the hotel were not happy. The majority appeared to be in their fifties, some pretty tired. On the occasions I visited the Reception desk, I felt I was an annoyance to them. I had to attend the Reception on two occasions to correct the initial reservation dates which was stuffed up by Reception on arrival. Another revisit to Reception was needed to reprogram each of the room door lock cards which should have been done when the amendments were made to the reservation dates.
I visited the bar twice for drinks and on each occasion, the bartender (a different one each time) was counting stock and did not look up to see if guests were waiting which meant a 3-5 minute wait.
The restaurant meal was nice but certainly not great. The service was excellent, however on saying this, the staff appeared tired and unhappy.
Housekeeping was generally very good, however a check list was obviously needed by the staff as sometimes they forgot to supply such things as replacement soap, face washers, laundry bags, and bin liners.
There was nothing fancy about this Hotel and it certainly did not have any Fijian chalm. But the place was clean and comfortable and yes I would return there and I did enjoy my stay. I believe the Hotel is most suited to the business traveller.
