The Diplomat Inn, Niagara Falls

After checking into the Diplomat Motor Inn at 5983 Stanley Ave in Niagara Falls, Canada, we received recommendations from the desk manager (Angelo) as to where to go and what to see in Niagara Falls. We went to our “nonsmoking room” to discover that there was a cigarette odor, as well as cigarette burns on the heart shaped hot tub. We also noticed that the carpeted floor was damp and it had cigarette burns on it, too. These issues were minor and overlookable at the time. We didn’t want to make a big deal about that. Then, we went out for the day. When we returned, we decided to use the pool. While getting ready to use the pool, I discovered that the sheets were not clean and had dried on white stuff, as well as a red dot on a pillowcase. On our way to the pool, we asked the woman, now at the desk, if we could have the room made up. She said we could at 8 pm. This was okay as we had evening plans anyway. After using the pool, we returned to our room to change into our clothes for our planned evening concert plans. We discovered a pile of cornflakes underneath the left bottom corner of the bed. On our way out, we asked if the floor could be vacuumed, as well. At which time, the woman at the desk said "We never get complaints. I'm going to refund your money." The full refund turned into a partial refund of $80. After the woman charged us an additional $80 and then claimed we were lying , my husband called the police. I asked the woman to refund the $80, as well as the original cost of the room. The woman refunded the $80, but then charged us another $80. This went on for two additional transactions. It appears on our Chase Freedom Credit Card that we were actually charged $260 and given no refunds. The police informed us that it was a civil matter and they couldn't do anything. They were very prompt and friendly to us. Our weekend plans were ruined as we did not have time to find a room to stay for the night. We called the credit card company and they resolved the overcharges for us. Please do not stay at this hotel. It was a horrible experience.
