The only thing we(myself, wife, and two daughters; ages 8 & 14) didn't like was the room wasn't as warm as we were accustomed to.
Very minor. Other than that, the place was great! The Authentic Bavarian cuisine that was prepared in their kitchen was only bested by the local brewed beir(beer to you and me) served with my meal. The staff was very receptive and pleaseant to my family and that was what we most appreciated about this popular destination in Bayern. Garmisch is great getaway...but while you're there, soak up the real flava by visting and/or staying at the Frosthaus. Right On and God Bless!
My husband's family came to visit us in Germany and we decided to go down to Garmisch for a four night stay. Many of the gasthauses were fully booked and we happened to find a family room at the Forsthaus Graseck. What luck we had in finding this gem!!
To get there, one must ride a gondola up a mountain. Talk about a different experience. The hotel sits all alone on a mountain side with spectacular views. There is a nice little park for kids to play and a pen with ducks and geese. Inside there is a play area for the kids with many toys so that adults can enjoy a cozy sitting room with conversation and the kids are entertained.
The breakfast is wonderful and the staff is extremely helpful and nice. The rooms are clean and all have a unique German charm you won't find at a chain hotel.
We just moved from Germany and one of the memories we will forever have in our hearts is of the times spent in Garmisch staying at the Forsthaus Graseck.
I'm tempted to not review this hotel so I can keep it a secret but it's too good to not share.
If you have a car and don't need Ritz Carlton-esque service, this is the place to stay in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
To get there, you pass the world-famous ski jump, drive a short mile or so on a scenic road, park your car, then walk up to the 4-man gondola for hotel access. The gondola ticket's included with your stay and really adds to the ambience. It's (obviously) secluded on a plateau up the mountainside and is very scenic. That alone is worth the stay.
Exit the gondola and you've got a great view surrounding you. The hotel is mid-sized so you have a homey feel; if you get the half-pension deal you can breakfast in the morning (above-average self-serve grub), ski, then make it back for dinner in the hotel restaurant. It's not top-shelf meals but still very respectable, considering the price. 4-course, German kitchen.
Very dog-friendly. Fido will get a bowl of water at dinner and have many friends to keep him company, too.
After skiing, hit the ample sauna room or catch some rays in the solarium. It's only 3.50 euro extra and it rocks.
Put down the keyboard, get a ticket to Germany, and check yourself into Forsthaus Grasek. You won't regret it.
