19 reviews for El Rey Motel, Globe
Return visit
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/13/07
We left a rave review last year. We returned this May to find Gerald, the manager, had gone and standards had dropped. We stayed for three nights. The carpet in our room was filthy but everything else was clean and worked well. The other guests appeared to be workers (rather than tourists as before) with trucks, some filthy. Guests left at various times through the night, often running their engines for about ten minutes. The lovely sign was not illuminated one of the nights and the "no vacancy" sign was always on the office door, although there appeared to be empty rooms. The internet had a sign saying "mail only". Circle K still does excellent coffee, nearby Chalos is still an excellent Mexican restaurant, but Jerry's with its new chef has deteriorated to the point of avoiding at all cost. We will still stay at El Rey next time we are in Globe and hope that standards improve again.

You've Got to be Kidding!! Filthy dirty & rundown!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/10/07
What's to like? Absolutely nothing. I booked this motel for seven nights sight-unseen - I only relied on all the rave reviews it got on this yahoo travel site!! I will never do that again! I arrived in the daylight to the office, hesitantly walked into it and asked to actually see the room before staying there. On the outside there were cars with their hoods up and guys working on their engines, the outside of the building was delapidated; everything was very sketchy and so were the people that were staying there. I walked into the room and was absolutely appalled at what I saw. I did not touch anything in fear of contaminating myself!! My mouth dropped open and I was shocked at what I saw. It was filthy and rundown on the inside, too. The guy that gave me the key so I could look at the room came over and said he gave me the wrong key and gave me another key to another room. I'm thinking that this one had to be better than the one I just looked at, and it was, but not by much. I went back to the office and nicely said that I would not be staying there for the week or even one night. I'm not sure why everyone has given this place a good rating; that is beyond my comprehension!!! The price is right, but the place is SO wrong!! The woman who runs it is very nice and helpful, however. That is the only good thing about this place.

El Rey room #4
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/07/07
i only got hot water for 4 minutes in the cold februbary night. my boyfriend got a full 13 mintues without problems the next morning. the comforter had a big yellow stain. the sheets appeared clean. the heater was duct-taped together in places. the person in the room next to us set their alarm for 5am & did not shut it off until 7:15, we had to listen to it all morning...thin walls. carpet was gross, they knew it, put cheap rugs over as much of the carpet they could. very shoddy 99cent store linoleum job in the bathroom. I also got a kick out of how they have to blatantly screw the tacky art to the walls....there has got to be a more attractive way to display art without morons stealing the "art". Super Super Good Stuff: TV w/lots of channels. microwave. mini fridge. excellent customer service, the best i've ever had. consider it a very fancy squat & i'd probably stay here again if i was visiting roosevelt lake or the pinal mountains. also, plenty of mirrors, roomy closet, circle k across the street. i got my hotel key from some breakdancing guy when i arrived since the real manager was out shopping. i thought that was pretty cool. i like hotels where i'm not afraid to step on the carpet or in the bathroom barefoot, this is not the place. Next time we promised ourselves we would bring our own pillows because theirs were so thin & flat. It reminds me a lot of the hotel congress in tucson. your very own carport parking space. $42 tax included for one night/queen bed and yeah, i'd totally stay here again, as long as i was feelin' like simple folk. which i usually am.

The best place to relax in Arizona.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/18/06
We have stayed here before but this time we were really suprised to see that the rooms have taken on such a new look. So clean and modern with the little kick of vintage, just about everything was new including the manager who took care of us as if we were at a 5 star luxury hotel. We stayed one night but had to stay another. We will always stay at the El Rey Motel when we are in Globe Az., such great hospitality and cleanlinest... its actually alot cleaner than them franchise motels in Globe, because I have stayed in most of these motels in Globe. The enviroment and the people who stay at this place are of such class, not people who abuse the place. The manager I see is always busy and up to something, He keeps this place going and this place will always be number one as long as the manager keeps up the good work. We shall return and expect the same great service...but you never know the El Rey always has something new up its sleeve. Thank you El Rey for the great stay in Globe Az.

Great period motel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/16/06
Recommended by "Rough Guide" we decided to try El Rey. We were delighted at the period setting, great rooms, fantastically friendly service, views and five-star-plus value for money. We only intended to stay in Globe for one night, but liked El Rey so much we stayed for three nights and then came back later in the trip for another night. Highly recommended for those who don't want standardised multi-chain sameness. We note other reviews say there is a restaurant but this seems to have gone. There are restaurants close by and coffee is great at Circle K opposite - as are their donuts!

Best time I spent while my carwas broke down!
By matt, 03/28/06
My car broke down; was having a horrible day, and upon arrival was greeted with happy faces! They gave a tremendous rate on a great room, that had all fixing for a great stay after a long day: T.V., microwave, refridgerator, A.C., and large comfortable bed! I highly recommend El Rey for a night off from driving or a nice getaway!! Thanks again!

The New El Rey.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/27/06
This place has taken on such a new look.., such intellegence and class has been put into such a old place. The manager is new and has such enthusiasm to bring this business back to life. We stayed there over the weekend on our long trip from Florida to Strawberry Hill in Arizona,... and this guy treated us top notch and gave us a room that we thought would not be the greatest but when we entered the room of such a old place we fell in love with it.., the turn around of the place was a great idea. We have stayed at many other places along our trip...we have had our ups and downs but this place we will always remember for our 2006 trip. The upgrade to modern necessities was a great idea....better than the franchise motels in Globe...This motel has its own character...its own fell of never letting go,...with a vintage clean look. This place has turned around...so clean and such class with the right person running the business. We enjoyed our stayed and as we could see around us that that many of the other rooms rented that night enjoyed the El Rey Motel that night. We will always stay at the El Rey Motel as long as they keep up the good work. We stay at all kinds of hotels and motels....but we recomend this place as the best place to stay in Arizona...Keep up the good work El Rey....and special thanks to Jerald the care taker of the best motel in Globe Az. we shall see you all in a couple of months.

Nice, clean, vintage look.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/27/06
One of the most convient motels in Globe. With area gas stations and restraunts near by in walking distance. Well lit parking lot with huge parking space.
