Very disappointing, not a good value for what you pay
We stayed at the Summerland Inn over Easter 2004 and were very disappointed. Pros: The bed was comfortable and the room not too noisy, location is near shops and nice enough. Cons: it's basically a cheap roadside motel behind a Victorian facade. I believe it's changed owners in recent years; we met a couple of guests who'd stayed there before, and were terribly disappointed--said they'd never come again. The rooms were not scrupulously clean, nor did the management change towels, empty wastebaskets, etc., on a daily basis. Despite what their website implies, there seem to be few or no amenities (except TV). The owners use the cheapest soap and towels and have replaced all the light fixtures with fluorescent bulbs, probably to save money. Apparently the previous owners served a sumptuous continental breakfast in the oak-paneled dining room, but the current owners have closed off that part of the house and put out only coffee and cheap breads in the lobby each morning. I feel sorry for the owners because they appear to be an immigrant couple who do not speak much English and probably don't understand what most American travelers expect of a nice hotel; however, the bottom line is that this is not a nice place to stay.
