Filthy Rooms & Awful Service
By Shannon, 11/28/06
This is the worst place that I have ever stayed at. The room was filthy. The towels were so small and dingy that you felt like you were drying yourself with a kitchen rag. The owner was abrasive and rude. Our sink was not working and my boyfriend asked her to fix it while we were gone. She literally barged into our room while I was getting ready and preceded to work on the sink. It was embarassing. The inn looks like it has potential, but it is filthy and needs new furnishings. The furnishings look like they come from a garage sale. We paid about $160/night for a place that wasn't even worth $25. Stay home or pay for a nicer place. They should even be able to run this inn in its current condition.

Don't Go!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/27/06
It was awful! The website is beautiful and that is were it ends. The rooms were dirty, epecially the stained comforters. We had towels from a gym printed on them. No A/C, so we had to open the windows. The noise form the freeway was deafening. Lights streaming in the windows all night. Curtains on backwards and inside out. Breakfast was coffee, with powdered cream and dried out coffe bread. That was it. The next day: Nothing! We came from out of state, so we felt we had no choice since we didn't know where to go.

overpriced Motel 6 (maybe worse)
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/26/05
Dirty bathroom, cheap soap, cheap towels, plastic cups, fridge next to the bed, no continental breakfast, no iron, no hair dryer, no coffee pot in room. Sounds worse than a Motel 6 to me...

Filthy, overpriced, no service!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/25/05
The worst part of the room, however, is that the bathroom was NOT cleaned. There was brown stuff in the toilet and a used razor in the shower. There were NO towels. The shampoos are generic low-end brands except for a pumper for hand soap. The reason they use a pumper is because it is CHEAPER than giving each guest a new bar of soap. Also, the provided shampoo (no conditioner) was not only generic low-end shampoo, BUT IT WAS REFILLED!! Yes, it was refilled and not a brand new bottle. This was clearly obvious based on the age of the label (gets wet over time) and looseness of the cap. We decided to go to the grocery store and buy our own soaps and towels. Reading some other reviews (after we already checked-in), we realized we would only receive cheap, low-end towels that would be very scratchy; and odds are they would not even make up the room and replace the towels. We thought we’d just take matters into our own hands here. In summary, I’d rather stay at a Motel 6. At least they have clean bathrooms and when they leave the light on, it’s not a florescent or solar light.

Very disappointing, not a good value for what you pay
By JD, 04/15/04
We stayed at the Summerland Inn over Easter 2004 and were very disappointed. Pros: The bed was comfortable and the room not too noisy, location is near shops and nice enough. Cons: it's basically a cheap roadside motel behind a Victorian facade. I believe it's changed owners in recent years; we met a couple of guests who'd stayed there before, and were terribly disappointed--said they'd never come again. The rooms were not scrupulously clean, nor did the management change towels, empty wastebaskets, etc., on a daily basis. Despite what their website implies, there seem to be few or no amenities (except TV). The owners use the cheapest soap and towels and have replaced all the light fixtures with fluorescent bulbs, probably to save money. Apparently the previous owners served a sumptuous continental breakfast in the oak-paneled dining room, but the current owners have closed off that part of the house and put out only coffee and cheap breads in the lobby each morning. I feel sorry for the owners because they appear to be an immigrant couple who do not speak much English and probably don't understand what most American travelers expect of a nice hotel; however, the bottom line is that this is not a nice place to stay.
