Wouldn't go back
Upon arrival, my family and I were greeted by the graffiti infested sign in the two car spot where we parked to check in. When checking in was settled, we went to the "parking lot" and even though there were a ton of rooms, there were about 10 parking spots, some that were even reserved for "small cars only" (we were traveling in three mini vans). The rooms were your typical motel rooms - but at over $200 a night, it was a rip off. I stayed in a room with two queen beds. Like I said, it was nothing special. The location, however, was what really made me upset. The website said that Castle Inn was in the middle of it all. Unless you consider "it all" the slums, then I'd say the website is deceiving. However, I will say that the staff was VERY nice and that the breakfast table was convenient in the morning when we were packing up and leaving. If you're looking for somewhere cheap to stay for a night in the midst of a longer journey in California and you're not picky, then I would definitely recommend Castle Inn. However, if you're staying in San Francisco for more than a night, pay the extra money and stay closer to the Wharf - the only time I got to see the Golden Gate Bridge was in a painting in my hotel room!
