HAVE YOUR VACATION RUINED FOR A SMALL FEE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/03/10
I arrived about 12AM (w/ my 3 young kids & bro) I was surprised when the rude f r u i t y clerk asked for a $150 depo. I asked why cause I already paid via Expedia? He said its required and asked if I smoked? (After reading other reviews today, they were probably trying to catch me smoking) I complied & paid the depo & said No, I don't smoke.. Anyhow, my Family (Sis, Dad & Bro) also reserved 2 rooms to support my other bros 20yr USN Retirement. The rooms were situated near each other beneath the CAMERAS THAT MONITOR YOUR EVERY MOVE! At 6AM I had visitors that came to my room. {THERE IS ONLY 1 ENTRANCE to access the rooms}. APPARENTLY YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE VISITORS! Because at 6:20 AM, I visited my Dads room & literally 2 seconds later he got a phone call that I had to report to the frontdesk asap! I spoke to Oscar & he said because I had visitors, I could no longer stay there but I had until 11AM to check out (not only me but MY ENTIRE FAM.) I asked why did they have to leave when its not their fault? I told him he wouldv'e never known we were together had my Brother came in seperatley. He said because I created the 'issue' & I needed to tell my family, not him! :-[ About 20 MINS LATER I received a phone call from the owner NEIL or ANAL(?) stating that I NEEDED TO LEAVE IMMEDIATELY! I asked him why, when Oscar said we could stay until 11? His reply was EVERYONE IS DOWNSTAIRS EATING BREAKFAST (this was untrue), then he THREATENED ME saying he called the CEO, the POLICE & if I didn't comply HE'D KEEP MY DEPOSIT & WOULDNT REIMBURSE MY 2ND NIGHT STAY. THESE PPL ARE RUDE, LACK IN HOSPITALITY & WILL DISCRIMINATE, MAKE YOU FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE & UNWELCOMED & THEY WILL MONITOR YOU 24/7 & WILL KICK YOU OUT ANYTIME FOR NO REASON! I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. Take my advice, do not book this crappy place. THE OWNERS AND EMPLOYEES ARE VERY UNPROFESSIONAL and have THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS. I've worked in a Hotel and I never once treated any of my guest this way. I wish I would have read the negative reviews before having to experience the worst motel service in my life! Google this hotel and you will see this is a common practice for Travelodge of La Mesa. You are better off staying ANYWHERE besides this place. Don't give your hard earned money to these people who think they are better then everyone else and their crap don't stink.

Hidden cams in guest rooms! Worst management ever!
By Renata, 11/06/09
This was, by far my worst hotel experience ever, but I guess you get what you pay for. I was staying here during surgical recovery from cancer, attracted by the low rate for my lengthy stay and comfy rooms with convenient fridge/microwave. I noticed some strange fixtures, but thought nothing of it until I received a call to my room from the front desk at 11:45pm...10 seconds after I lit an incense in the room. The only way they would have known that is if they saw me from a hidden cam in one of those fixtures. The hallways were lined with black domed cams, which was a bit overkill for such a tiny 2 star hotel. I was accused of "smoking" in the room and they had no way of confirming this other than saying they "just knew". I was ordered to pack my things in 15 minutes and leave the hotel or they'd have police escort me out. I was put out at midnight in a strange town, in a shady neighborhood! NEVER STAY HERE! And don't be lured in by the attractive price if you have any self-respect and respect for your family. Read the other horrible reviews on other sites. They have a lawsuit pending for unethical treatment of their guests.

a horrible and weird place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/17/09
We booked two rooms (two queen beds for each room) through Priceline. In the afternoon, I checked in the room under my name for 2 adults (my parents-in law). At night, when my wife checked in another room under her name for 2 adults and 2 kids, the manager got mad and said there were too many people. He then required us leave his property immediately otherwise he will call the cops. He told me his stuff already moved my things out of the room (looks like they already did that before my wife checked in). The unexpected nightmare really messed up my vacation with my family! Remember, avoid this place! You reservation could be cancelled for no reasons when you check it. Most likely, you will be policed, monitored and followed by the weird manager and his stuffs even though they claim they are "friendly". I feel the kids are not welcome in the place.

Very Nice Stay
By LnetteG, 10/11/09
I love the conveniece and the low cost. The rooms were large and clean with a mini 'frig and microwave. There were places to eat within walking distance and a grocery store right down the street. The staff was very nice and accomodating. Thank you for making my stay pleasant. Will stay there again when I return in a couple of months

2 thumbs down!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/26/09
I stayed here a couple of weeks ago. when i came to check in, there was no one at the front desk. I stood there and waited for about 5 min. while I was waiting the general manager "anal" (i believe his name was) was very disrespectful to one of his employees in the back room. It made me think it was a hostile work environment. Not to mention the location was very bad, the only good thing I have to say about this place is the price for the rooms. The management obviously does NOT!! know how to run a business. Do not stay here.

We're Coming Back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/01/08
What a wonderful experience staying at the Ramada on University Avenue was! We visited our son and his family in October 2007. At our son's urging, we booked at the Ramada because of its location. I was a little concerned and skeptical with the exterior look of the hotel - it appeared to be in some state of disrepair or in the process of being renovated. The latter was confirmed; the property was being renovated. We couldn't have been more surprised and pleased with the service, accommodations and, overall, the cleanliness. This is an older property, but cleanliness won me over. Our room was large and very comfortable. We've found our vacation home in La Mesa and we're definitely booking again for February 2008!

Wonderful stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/31/07
I would recomend this hotel for anyone looking to stay in the La Mesa area. We stayed there for three nights with two small children. Our room was very large and it included; microwave, a/c & heater, fridge, sink (outside of bathroom), large t.v., dresser, desk & chair, along with the regular 2 beds and night stand. The hotel was very clean and quiet. Our room was right next to the elevator and never once was disturbed. The office attendants were very friendly. The breakfast choices they offer were great and had a large variety. There wasn't one complaint!! We will definetely stay there again :-)

I was very happy overall
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/28/07
I booked my hotel with Trip Rewards for the San Diego area, and I was given this property for a good value. The morning we were ready to leave I found this site and told my husband I felt I had made a mistake. When we got to the property, I asked the person working the desk if we could see the room because of all the poor comments I had been reading online, he very kindly took us up stairs and explained how they had only had the property for two months and they where in the middle of a massive redo. The room we saw as very clean and freshly painted, (could have used new carpet, but that was in the carport) the referigator and microwave where clean and the bathroom had recently been remolded, very nice. We ended up staying for ended up staying the whole 5 days. The only problem I am having now is that Trip Rewards will not give me my points because they say we where not in there data base, not there that was the hotel or the website for Trip. p.s. the beds where new
