not at all what they cracked it up to be

i went to the alporn because it sounded like a nice non-commercialized place to get away, and because of the reviews i'd read online.
however, i was definitely disappointed because i had anticipated something else. the $59 suite is NOT a room with a jacuzzi. i got a non-smoking/king size "executive suite." (the "whirlpool" suite would've been $89, not "$59" as suggested by a previous reviewer. this was only a normal one-person tub/shower combo.) the room was a relatively nice room for the price, but it is no great deal -- i felt i got what i paid for.
the furniture was plain, the room clean, the staff efficient. there was a desk/table with two chairs, a sizeable dresser, plenty of lighting, and a basic armchair/ottoman combo in one corner. there was a nice tv and vcr. there was A/C.
BUT
the building was old, empty, only basically secured. the room was basically carpeted and decorated -- by no means plush or anything near what i would imagine an "executive suite" to be. the closet door was broken and would jam open or shut, depending upon one where it was jammed when one gave up trying to un-jam it. the continental breakfast was meager -- toast and mini-danishes, coffee and dispenser orange juice -- but enough.
again, nice people, nice clean-safe-private-comfortable place to stay. but by no means was this the tremendous deal that previous reviewers made it out to be. and if i'd known so previously, i might've taken my $59 elsewhere.
