Grand Mackinaw, Mackinaw City

I'm not sure where they got the picture on this site, but it is NOT of the Aqua Grand rooms......they were very old, musty.......and charged $225. The bed was terribly uncomfortable. I've never stayed at a place that refused to refund your money if you were dissatisfied with your accommodations....I have now.

we just got back and don't see why the bad reviews. they just remodeled the rooms and they are nice. it was fairly clean. service was good. when they cleaned our room they put our stuff back where it belonged. it was kind of far away from most places downtown though. beach was nice. rooms were bigger than most standard rooms. may stay again when we go back. would like a place closer to downtown though.

I was a bit concerned about my reservations after reading some of the reviews of this location. However I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is certainly not a "top tier" location, but for the money it is nice. A little more attention to detail would not hurt when it comes to overall appearance, but the price was right. I would stay again, maybe next year?

We stayed one night at the hotel. There was no screen on the patio door. It would have been nice to leave the door open at night but couldn't because of the bats and bugs. There was a one cup coffee pot (still can't figure that one out.) but no cups. They offer a complimentary breakfast but the breakfast room had 5 or 6 tables certainly not enough if a large group comes in at the same time. They should get rid of the pool house and make that the breakfast room. People were taking their food back to their rooms. The bathroom had accumulated dirt on the floor. Certainly not worth the money we paid. I would rather pay a little more and get a decent breakfast and cleaner room.

The room was fairly nice and the staff was nice. However, the water park was closed because they decided there was not enough people and they wanted to keep the prices low. We paid $129 and my daughter wanted to play in the park before we left. She got up early and waited till the opening time. After 5 minutes they came in and closed it. At least they could have given her a 10 minute warning. She was very unhappy and dissappointed so that made us unhappy and dissappointed.

Booked online 2 months in advance. Got there and was told the online service had overbooked my reservation and I didn't have a room. The hotel had my money for 2 months - but didn't bother to let me know. If I wanted a room I could pay more. Did so because I would have had trouble finding another place at this time. The room was nothing special. The beds weren't comfortable, the carpet was not clean. There was not screen in patio door - called and got another one, but it was broken too; couldn't close it completely so bugs would have been able to come in. I don't think the owner is particularly concerned about their patrons. Will not return and will not recommend.

We booked a 3 bedroom suite. However,the day we arrived, we were told they over-booked the suite. I asked why I wasn't notified when I booked it 2 months prior. They shrugged their shoulders and said "I don't know." I even had my email confirmation showing my booking. The stinky, musty,rooms we were given were courtside with a view of the parking lot. Very noisy location with other guests leaving. House keeping never re-stocked coffee supplies. Couldn't make an evening pot of coffee! The cable TV worked on occasion. I'll stay somewhere else next time!!

I really enjoyed my stay at the Aqua Grand. I had booked it online for really cheap, and when we got there, we were upgraded to beachfront rooms. The people were exceptionally nice, and the view was great. The pool is nice, but the hot tub in the kids' area was great. Free continental breakfast. Nice beach area. Great location for ferries and all of the shopping and restaurants in Mackinaw City. I would definitely go back, and I would recommend it to a friend. The "waterpark" is more like a "water playground," though. We didn't have kids with us, but it would be good for little kids, but it's not like you can spend days there. Still, a great value.

We booked a room for a two day stay. The day we checked-in we got a call that our 28 year old nephew had died unexpectedly so we had to cut our trip short. I went to the office and explained the situation and asked for a refund of $150 for the unused day and was told by GARY that the hotel could'nt do that. Gary stated that they where in a tourist area (nice way to treat your guests!). I would have an easier time accepting this if the hotel was at capacity, they were not and had rooms available. The hotel's policy of making the buck instead of doing the right thing is sad. What they don't realise is that we will not be back, ever! Don't expect to use the internet in your room, you'll have to go to the very hot lobby. The Large hot tub was luke warm. The hotel is under staffed also. The customer ahead of me said they were gone to the island all day and came back to a room that was not serviced. There are lots of other hotels around this one and some of them said that they have water parks also. Dan

What a great hotel. The rooms are very nice and clean! What a bonus to have a room with a view. We were expecting a room looking over the parking lot not the lake. Water park area is great for children. Everyone on staff was very friendly, helpful and knowledgable. Staff went beyond there service in helping to find a hotel to stay in due to the fact we arrived a day early and they were booked that night. Location was great, the hotel is close to everyting. Will reccomend this hotel to all my friends.
