Nice little hotel
By Melissa S, 08/23/09
Nice place within walking distance from almost everything in Mackinaw City! The owners are great and told us about resturants and what ferry to take to see under the bridge. The room wasn't too bad- my husband thought it (& the TV) was a little small, but we were only in it at night. It was clean & the beds were comfy. I'd have liked a microwave in the room. My son loved the pool area, and the 2 hot tubs. Not a bad deal considering we spent a little over $100 for 2 nights in August. Would stay here again!

Perfect place when visiting the UP
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/25/09
I liked the closeness to other activities. I liked the hospitality of the owners/staff. They were helpful with my activities in the area as well as directions to other places. Yes, I would recommend it to anyone traveling up north, whether as a stop over or as a place to vacation. The grounds were beautifully kept and I just enjoyed the overall stay. Good job Rainbow.

An oasis in the desert
By A Yahoo! User, 09/04/08
I had the pleasure of staying on my way to Harley Davidsons 105th anniversary. While our other friends stayed accross the street, we stayed at a wonderful, clean, inexpensive, friendly, and nearby everything place. My hat is off to this beautiful little place. Thanks Nancy, your great. I'll be back.

Horrified by the room's smell & filth
By W, 08/31/08
Based on the other, mainly positive reviews, I made a reservation to stay at Rainbow Motel in Mackinaw City, MI. The room smelled horrible--a disgusting combination of must & urine. Both of my kids literally threw up that night due to the stench in the room. The room hadn't been dusted in ages, the mini fridge was filthy, and the floors were disgusting. After one restless night (just couldn't get the smell out of my mind), we got the heck out of there. We wouldn't even shower in that room. My kids thanked me repeatedly for not making them stay there any more nights. Shortly after check-in, I complained to the owner. He said that the room had been rented all summer and no one else had complained. (Oh, so there must be something wrong with ME and only me??? Yeah, right!) When I checked out early the next morning, I was promptly issued a refund for the second night (refund or no refund, there was no way I was staying in that place one more hour). I have never been treated so strangely: neither of the owners would make eye contact with me when I came in to check out, nor would the girl manning the front desk; at no time did any one offer an apology, offer to "make it right," or switch me to another room (not like I would have taken them up on that suggestion, but they didn't even try to offer it). According to other reviewers, this place is "much better" than other places in Mackinaw City. I shudder at the thought. If that's true, then my best advice is to avoid staying in Mackinaw City altogether. I cannot understand how this place gets such great reviews from others--especially in terms of cleanliness. I think that the owners must spend their time writing their own, favorable reviews......when they should be spending their time cleaning the rooms. Ugh. Note: I have given this motel a rating of "1" for service, cleanliness, and value....only because Yahoo!Travel will not let me give them the "0" that is deserved. Stay away from this place. Stay far, far away!

Great place to stay
By Jeanne, 08/11/08
We found the staff to be very nice and helpful. Rooms were VERY clean, indoor pool area very nice and clean. Great location, can easily walk to shopping and ferry boat areas. Free shuttle to casino was also great! I would suggest this motel to all. Price was right too!

Good choice
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/09/08
Me and my dad (im 13) went to mackinac island last year during August 07. We had such a great time at the rainbow hotel even though it was only one night. The previous 2 nights were horrible in our room at the best western before we gave up and tryed the rainbow hotel. Best western mixed up our keys and rooms, it was very irritating and the place (pool, room, ect) was not very clean. However, soon as my father and i stepped into the checkin place i felt at home. Smelled like grandmas house and was very charming. The hotel room was small and "personal" feeling with the 70's decor. The pool was clean and we were the only ones in there and both the hot tubs were clear, i had fun sitting and relaxing in the outdoor one for a while. The Rainbow Motel is charming, sorta reminded me of a community place with the gazeebo and all. it was a great stay and I am begging my dad to take me back to Mackinac island this year too :) my tshirt is worn out :(

Best Place in Mackinaw City
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/11/08
We stayed here In August of 2007. Everyone was really friendly and helpful. They even gave us a lot of coupons and discounts for meals at local restaurants. The rooms were clean and big. The pool was awesome. What is even nicer is it is with in walking distance of downtown and the Ferry. Being located near the downtown area it is very quiet and comfortable. We will be returning there for all future stays. I highly recommend this place to anyone thinking of making a visit to Mackinac.

Like Being Home
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/28/07
The Rainbow Motel is like going home to mom & dad's they love to have you there . They take great care of you. The room was very clean. The bed's are very comfortable. And what I like about the location is you can park your car and never use it . You can walk to town or to go and eat.

Very nice place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/21/07
Have stayed here for the last 14 years and found the Rainbow to be clean, quiet and very convenient to various attractions in the area. I like not having to climb stairs to get to my room. Also a very nice pool.
