What a SCARY place!!!
By Erin, 04/06/09
We checked in on 4/4/09. We stayed here before (in the little cottages) and loved it! Our room was old but very clean. The motel was filled with young vacationing families. This time however, we were the only guests who weren't LIVING at the motel. My husband had to run the CC# because the clerk couldn't work the machine. They said the cottages were taken so we had to stay in the ugly brick apartment building in the back. The lighting was poor along the sidewalk to the building. We went in and everything looked OK...not clean by any means but enough to get by with for one night. We kept our shoes on the entire time. The "away lock" on the door is very minimal....scary to know someone could get in your room while you are gone. There wasn't a TV remote. There wasn't a bathtub stopper. There were only 2 towels for 4 people. The next morning, while getting ready to leave, we noticed there were red spots all over the wall near the patio door. They were also on the A/C unit. I can almost swear it was blood. At this point, we quickly showered and left the building as fast as we could. I wouldn't stay here again if my life depended on it!! If you can't afford one of the nicer hotels.......sleep in your car!! This place should be closed down!!

Should be called the White-LIE!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/03/08
March 2008... We (a family of 5), arrived in the early evening, we were relieved when we saw the inviting cozy cottages (booked sight unseen or recommended). Exhausted from our travels, we checked in and were greated by a very grumbly man. He handed us a key and said our room is in the brick building. You can not imagine our disappointment! The room smelled musty and smokey (great w/our asthma kid), the carpet was filthy and burnt with iron markings(had to wear shoes the whole time). The huge flowing cobwebs in the corners added a nice touch(if we were the Addams family!), we had to buy cleaning supplies to wipe down the grimey kitchenette. Exhasusted, & not knowing were else to go, began to make the best of it. All of a sudden water from the room above began to leak and drip into our bathroom area! We ran & got the attendant and he then ran upstairs and turned off the water. He showed us another room (which was worse!). We stayed in ours(after all we cleaned up). When we brought the webs, the floor, the grime up to the attendant--he just shrugged and walked off. We endured the night and the bug bites, got up and anxiously hoping that there was hot coffee and pastries waiting. NOPE! He said that the "Coffee Room" doesn't open until April, as he sipped his coffee! Who is this character? We realized that we were in HELL and we cancelled our remaining 4 days--and hoped for the best on the rest of our travels. NOW, when you look at their website and you see the cute little cottages and cozy rooms--squint and you will see the ugly brick 2 story motel/apartments (YES! Apartments! Questionable looking folks living there, laundry hanging out on the balconies) that they will be offering you. Bring a broom, Bleach and your own sheets and leave your shoes on!

Horriblie Customer Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/04/07
I checked in late Friday night and thought the room was okay and reasonably priced. The next morning I went to the front desk and stated I wished to stay one more night. I asked the young lady if she needed to run my cc again and she said she did not. I did not give it a second thought. When I came back that Saturday night, after I had fallen asleep, there was a pounding on the door. The night manager was screaming at me! "Are you registered here, are you registered here.?" I showed him my registration from friday night and told him I had requested another night's stay on Saturday morning? He sulked off and mumbled "okay". The next morning went I went to go check out, he was there. I voiced my displeasure and his response was I do not have time for this. Do not stay at the White Lion Motel. What a joke!

No change since the 1950's
By ThomasT, 05/16/07
Our reservation was during the Jamestown 400th Anniversary, hence at an understandably hiher than usual rate, although their "vacancy" sign was on every night. The motel's website and other reviews that we'd read significantly overstated the condition and quality of this facility. Our room (#11) had unvacummed Cherios on the floor and a stale aroma. The bathroom light and exhaust fan were on the same switch; the fan noise was objectionable. We checked in on Friday May 11th, 2007. On Saturday the room was not made up. The towels that we'd used were removed but not replaced with fresh ones. The waste baskets were not emptied, and the bed unmade. The front desk lady apologized, saying that the maid had other responsibilities and must have missed our room. There is no shampoo provided. The TV remote control did not work. The double bed was comfortable. The continental breakfast started at 8 AM, later than we'd prefer, however the juice, coffee and sweet rolls were OK. Another guest asked for decaf coffee which was not available. Compared to other motels in which we've stayed this year this one comes up at the bottom of our rating sheet. We would not stay at this hotel again.

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/29/07
We recommend The White Lion Motel. What a nice place to stay. We had a Family reunion everything couldn't have been nicer. Pleasant Staff ,very helpful with information such as dinning out, shopping ect. Located a few blocks from Colonial Williamsburg.Minutes from bushgardens and all area attractions. one other nice thing about there location is thay they are off the beaten track located on the quite side!! Cleanest rooms. A great place for families. The Harland Family

Will be back ,Clean and Very affordable great Customer service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/02/07
Vacationed August 2006 at The White Lion Motel, it was great! Room where very clean and spacious. We stayed a family of 6 in one of their efficiency suites . I could'n't believe the size. Easly compared to a studio apartment!! My sisters had stayed in those cute cottages, boy talk about detail trim work ,you won't find anything like that in the area.My sister couldn't believe how solidly built they were. However, I have just booked for May 2007 to see for Jamestowns 400th celebration. Looking forward to my stay at The White Lion Motel for the Benner Family Reunion. Karen Benner

Never going back again!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/15/06
This hotel is over priced and not very clean in some of the rooms. We stay with this at this hotel all last year and one day this year. We had one room we liked to stayed in it was cleaner than the others. The last time I called the rates went up to $130 a night.I was paying $70 a night before the manager told me that it is because they remodel the rooms. I explained that we had stayed with the hotel many times and I do not think the hotel should charge that much just because the hotel was remodel the rooms.

Not Worth It
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/25/06
The room was so small we had a difficult time working with our two lugagge bags. The carpet was very dirty (don't walk in your bare feet or in white soxs)and smelled awful. The water pressure was inconsistent and the air conditioner was just a few feet from the foot of the bed and it blew directly on us. WE had a two night reservation but only styed one night. Moved down the street for just a few $s more and got a great room with a outstanding pool.
