What a Surprise!

My Road Buddy and I have stayed in some real dives. Nothing chills my blood like the word "motel", so when we decided on The Birchwood as our base on a trip to Chincoteague, VA, I was skeptical (especially because their website says "biker friendly". But my what a pleasant surprise!.
The place is cute, sporting every kind of swinging chair you can imagine from gliders to swing sets to porch swings. The two screened pavillions have built-in grills and your hosts are kind enough to provide grill utensils, and citronella candles. The Birchwood also has a pier on the bay where you can crab and fish.
The rooms are decent (we stayed in a double the first time and an effecieny the second), but have a very disinfected smell and a bit of a fly problem (close that door quick!).
Even with the flies I recommend The Birchwood for it's warm staff, free continental breakfast, unchecked crabbing, cool hammocks and swings, pool and overall peaceful atmosphere!
