Duke of Dare Motor Lodge, Manteo

We were only in town for a couple days to visit a relative from Germany, and I was looking for a place that wasn't upwards of $100 a night. Then I stumbled upon this gem. Don't pay attention to the bad reviews. It IS retro and dated, but it's clean, the beds are comfy, and there's a shower. What more do you need?? Unless you're a prude and like to spend your vacation in your hotel room, this place is a perfect!! You can spend a week here for the price most hotels charge for a few days!!

This is not a fancy hotel, but the room was clean and it was very affordable. Also very convenient to the waterfront and lots of resaturants. The staff was very helpful and friendly as well.

My family has been going to OBX every summer since I was 3....I'm 32 now and we have stayed at the Duke of Dare every year. We always go down early to beat the traffic...this is a VERY reasonably priced Motel...and close to a lot of stuff! The staff is always so nice and helpful and we have never had a problem with a dirty room. The only complaint I ever had was the bed in the single room we had a few years ago was like sleeping on the concrete floor...other than that....LOVE THIS MOTEL! Did I mention the pool is awesome too!! My daughter never gets out of it!!

this was a nice pace to stay the rooms were clean,they were big rooms when we go back to the beach this is were we will stayits convient to nagshead just over the bridge

What a quaint place to stay. We enjoyed our stay and will be back for sure! The staff was very helpful too. Our rooms were neat and tidy and the ice machine always full! Thank you to the employee that brought us extra pillows!

I love the friendly people that own it. My husband and I usually go in Oct. and July. We go in Oct. for our wedding anniversary and in July for our family vacation and we always stay at the Duke of Dare because it is clean and it is a good location. Also the owners are really nice and they always remember us from year to year. Thanks Duke of Dare

nothing fancy but clean. reasonable rate, not on beach (5 miles away) but on sound side of the outerbanks. lost colony 2 mi, waterfront 1/2 mile great place to walk. good value especially for a family with kids. plenty of eating places close by. town has good family values and this motel reflects that way of thinking. honest friendly owners.

The management had my customers arrested in their rooms by police with guns drawn and dogs. One of the two guys was asleep in his underwear. They were dragged off to jail because of a noise complaint. Rooms need to be refurbished. Owner is totally unreasonable.

Back in the day, this was a upper scale motel. I'm so glad to read it's still in business. My family spent a holiday there - taking in The Lost Colony where a guy spilled cigarette ashes in my brother's hair (!), the room a/c was unbelievably, deliciously cold (a/cs were luxuries) and the furnishings were the most contemporary, the pool was to die for (although my nonswimming brother did fall in the deep end), and we talked about that vacation for years to come. Maybe I'll take my kids this summer for a stroll down memory lane. Pool still looks good in the pictures. Retro, huh?

This is a good place to stay if you are fishing in the Nags Head area. Its old and worn, but works for me. I can understand Sarah looking for something else if "nice" is what you are after. The Duke has a great cancellation policy that allows you to cancel up till 5PM the day of your visit without penalty. This is great for me because the weather can be so unpredictable at the beach. The folks at the front desk are great, and the room rate won't break the bank.
