it served it purpose.........

After reading a bunch of horrible reviews of this hotel on othe sites, i though, what did i get myself into?! well, it wasn't THAT bad. this hotel seems to be run by a bunch of elderly people who might not be as polished as a bunch of young execs running a 5 star hotel. this hotel is very basic and their descriptions of ammentities are a bit misleading. the pictures of the rooms with refrigerators, mircrowaves, coffee makers, etc. are ONLY in the rooms that you can UPGRADE to....in other words, pay more for stuff that you don't need. the upgraded rooms are in the NEWER building, which still seems dated. we stated in the motel part where you drive your car up to your room door. was the room dated--YES. but it was clean. one of the desk clerks, who by the way are a bunch of old women that are easily confused on how to check in or check out guests, described the room as "really cute". it WASN'T really cute, but it was adequate. the TINY bathroom had a toilet that we had to remove the lid from and jiggle the insides to get it to fill up after we flushed, we had to ask for shampoo, soap and cups...the lady who got it for us was very nice and friendly. the towels are NOT plush, but yellowed and thin from years of being bleached. they replaced the television set half way through our stay, NOT at our request, but the new one was nicer. the beds were firm and so were the pillows, comfortable. the curtains were falling off of the rods, but kept the room dark. NORMALLY i am a super picky person, i usually book the most posh hotel, but we came to Ithaca for the hiking and getting back to nature,so this hotel seemed appropriate for that back to basics mind-set, despite some of it's shortcomings. this hotel is very centrally located-- it was a very short walk to the downtown commons, across from 2 shopping plazas, close to tons of great restaurants, (try ZA ZA's CUCINA & WILLOW both excellent), very near great hikes/state parks, close to highways to take you to winerys, antique malls, swimming, country drives, etc. the town of ithaca is very artsy, feels safe and cute.......
stay at the meadow court for the simple fact of just using the room to sleep in, not hanging out in or looking for upscale ammentities.....if you think that you need 24 hour front desk assistance (they lock up the front office, with nobody attending after hours), a swimming pool, fancy soaps and linens, & up to the minute decor---then stay someplace else, but if you can overlook the small imperfections and enjoy ithaca for what it has to offer..........this is a great place to save money!
