Bad service & overprice
By Rafael, 10/12/09
This hotel is OVERPRICE don't waste your money, the elevator stinks and the front desk didn't even have toothpaste what ashamed. And no hot water in the shower this is truly an overprice hotel 100% would not recommend not even to an enemy. The bathrooms at the pool are in bad shape and dirty, the jacuzzi was dirty.

The worst place
By JOSE, 09/09/09
Is the worst place, very expensive for what it is. The carpet is dirty. Very dirty pool and pool area, the window screens in the pool area are broken, the water in the jacuzzi is mild. The bathrooms in the pool area are extremely dirty and smell. The service is the worst. I will never go back. They should give me my money back, a total ripoff.

Save Your Money!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/08/09
This hotel was very dirty. The bath tub was absolutely disgusting. Also, the room was extremely noisy. There was a party on the floor below us, and the music was so loud I could barely here my TV. It was impossible to sleep. Not great after a long trip. Lastly, the pool area was very dark at night. It was actually scary and I wouldn't go in. Besides, the pool room was freezing and the water was cold - not heated ( I did feel it). Save your money and go someplace else. When I told the manager, my complaints, she told me that the maid was new and that was a valid complaint. Therefore, she gave me 10% off my next stay. Trust me, there won't be one!!!

Nice View Nice W/E
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/25/09
We took a chance and stayed here even though some of the reviews were bad. Yes the hotel is older and the hallways are dated, but the rooms are nicely updated, clean and the ocean view (rm 219 thru 225) was gorgeous of the Narrangansett Bay and area. Our service was great and the included dinner at the restaurant was great. We did the winter Dine and Stay and it was a great deal. The continental breakfast was fine and the staff made and delivered my belgian waffle. There was a wedding during our stay and you could hear the band. It was over by 10:00 and did not bother us. There is also considerable noise in the hallways, mostly kids and that did not bother us either. If you're looking for absolute quiet, this is not your place. We will go back off season again. A nice get away.

would never go back
By LAURIED, 09/02/08
we just recently stayed at this smelly hotel. maid service never happened and no one cared. The staff seems to camp out at the entrance and socialize. The continental breakfast was ok but everyone seems to chat to each other and not care. The hallways smelled and carpets were dated from maybe the 70's. My husband and I could not sleep with the air conditioner racket. So we were sufficiently entertained by the street noise. Way over priced and just dumpy environment. Would not recommend to anyone. Too bad, great location could be great.

Excellent Renovations
By Vicki, 06/29/08
I read the reviews saying this hotel was awful but I was pleasantly surprised to find that none of those reviews were true. The hotel has apparently been under new management since last July and has been renovating ever since. I don't know why people complained of a smell in the past but I didn't smell anything bad for the 3 days and nights that I stayed. The bedspreads are a little outdated at the moment but the staff informed me that they are in the process of switching it all out for brand new comforters, curtains, and carpets which should be arriving this summer. The hotel is in a GREAT location- right across the street from Narragansett Town Beach. After Memorial Day it does cost $5/person to get on the beach but guests of the hotel enjoy free parking and a short walk across the road which is nice. There is also a beach five minutes down the road that has free admission but you have to pay to park- great for large groups going to the beach! The hotel is conveniently located 15 minutes from Newport, 10 minutes from the Block Island Ferry in Galilee, and 5 minutes from downtown Wakefield which has everything you can't find right out the back door. Directly outside of the hotel are at least 10 restaurants within a 5 minute walk and over a dozen shops. The hotel offers free WiFi throughout the building as well as a business center for guests to print, fax, or just go online if they don't have a laptop. Then there's the indoor heated pool and Jacuzzi, and daily Continental breakfast during the summer. Even off season they offer muffins and danishes at the front desk. I would be more than happy to go back to the Village Inn, especially after all the new comforters are in! I was very pleased with my experience and would recommend this hotel to anyone!!

Um, no.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/16/07
It's the kind of place that when you walk in you think to yourself "Just turn around and leave. Now." Alas, we did not. It was off-season and the only other places we had passed on the way were closed. The first thing that hit us when we walked into the lobby was a moldy-funky-institutional disinfectant-what died and *what* are they using to cover it up kinda smell. Considering that the employees at the front desk have to sit for hours in this fog of funk, I won't comment on the service. The room was a decent size, but the decor was old and tired. It may, in fact. have been clean, but it gave the impression of being unclean. The tiny balcony was almost entirely occupied by a tiny hot tub/jacuzzi/super-sized petrie dish type thing. Oofa! As mentioned by other reviewers, the website photos of the hotel are misleading, the hotel is separated from the beach by a large parking lot and a busy street. Ocean views if you don't mind leaning out your window, craning your neck and squinting through one eye. And who doesn't mind that for these prices! If you must stay here, ask for a room above the first floor- somewhat out of the reach of the smell. But then again, if you're just trying to get away from the smell, bypass the place altogether!

The Village Inn is overpriced and dirty
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/22/07
The Inn is not located on the water, it is across a busy street. There are no real ocean views contray to the brocure which is misleading. The place is filthy. The pool area was dirty. Our room smelled of mildew and was noisey, we were next to the pool on the first floor. There was no screen in the window so anyone could have walked in our room through the window. The smell in the room was so bad we ran the a/c all night in October! My wife developed an allergy to something in the room. Her eyes puffed up like a balloon the morning we checked out. We went attended a wedding and the bride reserved a block of rooms. The wedding was nice. The function staff was very courteous. I would highly recommend this place for a function. When we arrived home, our clothes smelled so bad everything had to be washed immediately or placed outside. We do not recommend an overnight stay.

Dissapointing
By slim, 09/01/07
Noisey, smelly, nothing exceptional. To expensive for what you get. you also must pay for parking and beach admission. There was a wedding the night we were there noisey, thin walls, heard children running above us. they fumigate each day, not a good sign. Light bulbs, closet knobs missing. We reccommend renting a house in the area instead.

Not a good experience for the $
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/21/07
Be careful at $250 for a partial ocean view that opens directly onto the function hall deck. Luckily there were no functions the two nights we stayed. The aerial photo on their website is misleading. The hotel is only the older building on the left (with the deck in the center). The newer buildings on the right are a separate condo complex – they have all the good views. The building is tired. The mirror in the elevator on which they were advertising their wedding services was cracked – not a good omen. Our room had been redecorated nicely, but the bathroom is still cramped, the walls and floors are thin – you hear noises from above and beside. The doors to the stairway were hard to open. The café had decent food but the atmosphere was only one step above fast food. The younger staff was friendly, but when an older woman insisted we pay $5 for a lost plastic key on check-out you get the idea. (And it also cost $3 extra for wireless internet service.) Narragansett itself was a pleasant get-away.
