We Loved It!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/8/09
I don't usually write reviews but I read some of the bad ones and wondered if they were on drugs or something. It's not the Ritz or the Plaza. It's a family owned resort. Something you don't see much anymore. There shoud be more like it and I cna't wait to come back with my family. I loved it. I was here on business and ended up staying an extra night because of a snow storm. The food is great and the bartender super friendly. It was nice to have the pool and gym in the morning which was very clean by the way. The rooms are Lovely. I had a room with a balcony and the room was huge and beautifully appointed. It looks like they have just renovated the whole place. The desk told me the pool was new too. Not sure about the negative people but I'll be back again and again! Great Family Fun- Very Clean- Great Pool
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/7/09
We loved the Shalimar Resort- We came for Mass. February vacation with our kids. We bought discount Gunstock ski tickets at the desk, had a fabulous meal and our kids sang karaoke in the pub. The kids loved the large game room. The rooms are BEAUTIFUL, VERY CLEAN and completely renovated. We rented online and the rates are cheaper. A great value. We will absolutely come back again!

Think Twice, Nothing Changed
By Ken, 10/26/08
This past summer we had a very bad experience with the $150 a night room. It was very dirty and we felt gross the whole time there. Well we got a letter from the owner Mary and she invited us back for another stay on the house and we thank her for that. When we arrived that afternoon we were greeted very nicely and were told that the room that they had for us was just renovated and was all set to go. Well I am not sure if they think we were from the sticks or just fell off of the turnip truck but if we hadn't of driven so far we would have left as soon as we arrived. This room was also very dirty in looks, the ceiling was all water stained and the paint was falling off, the pillows had stains all over them along with the pillow cases. The only thing that was changed was the bathroom had new paint on the walls. Taking a shower was the worst. The shower head was ready to fall off and rinsing you're hair took forever with the water saver head. I am sure that this resort was a big hit in it's hay day. This resort definitly has so much potential but you have to at least spend something for the up-keep and maybe Mary thinks that she is and it is the staff that is running this place into the ground but whatever it is, we will look else where when we spend time at the lake. would never go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/1/08
didn't like much about this place the pool had more patches than i don't know what, they advertise a restaraunt and there is none, the beds are like sleeping on a piece of slate, the place is dirty looking and infested with spiders the only thing i liked about it was leaving the hotel !!!

Wouldn't choose Shalimar for next visit
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/14/08
For the price paid (150.00 a night) was too steep for the quality of the rooms. The room and bathroom did not have a clean look to it. The bed was hard as a rock. The only positive reason to stay there would be if you had a boat it is convenient across the street to put it in the lake. I would highly recommend checking into some other hotels before choosing the Shalimar.

great place but
By Debbie S, 6/30/08
Great place to stay a little expensive at race weekend for what you get. Food very good and priced right but drinks are terribly expensive.

Looks can be deceiving!
By Michaela, 2/16/08
My boyfriend and I drove by and noticed the enormous indoor pool and decided to give it a try. I was apprehensive at first because it does look dated. What a gem! Admittedly, a bit outdated but very clean and the staff was great! The older gentleman at the front desk kept us laughing every time we walked by! Yes, the (indoor) pool and hot tub were fantastic! Our king size room was clean and neat. The linens were fresh. We had dinner in the restaurant. The seafood bisque was too salty for my liking, but the rest of the meal was very good. I had surf & turf and Stephen had pasta bolognese. We shared chocolate lava cake for dessert. My ONLY complaint with this hotel was the continental breakfast. Two kinds of muffins, grapefruit juice and coffee does not cut it. It certainly wasn't what we were told to expect. We would not hesitate to return!

can't wait to go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/5/08
The help were honest and humerous. The motiff was outdated but enjoyable. The pool and surrounding area were marvolous. Please give special attention to the old man who works the front desk, He is a gem.

worst meal of my life
By F.J., 9/5/07
Didn't stay at the hotel, wouldn't stay there. My girlfriend and I went there for dinner, it was really bad. We ordered the mixed broiled seafood entree, stuffed shrimp, stuffed mushrooms. The salads were still frozen when they came. The iced tea was murky and bitter. 3 of the rolls were fresh, the fourth was really hard. the stuffed mushrooms were terrible. The dish was a short narrow long ceramic dish heaping with a sandy brown breading with chesse melted on top. there were 5 small mushrooms buried in the mess. The stuffed shrimp were served in a small skillet. The skillet was filled with the same sandy breading to the top. There were 4 shrimp laying on top. Not stuffed at all. The sandy stuff was by the menus account a special homemade crab stuffing. It did not taste like crab. The broiled dish was actualy pretty good, until I found the brown sandy stuff under the fish. I called and spoke to Mary who claimed to be the owner she assured me she would look into it and call me back. She never did. I really want my $55.78 back. I also would say do not eat or stay there. The bar was dark dirty and trashy. The unpainted 2 by 6 that was being used as a bar shelf to hold the 8 bottles of liquer they had was really not classy at all. I also really didn't like eating my dinner at the bar with a pile of dirty dinner plates infront of me the whole time. Mary if you are reading this your chef, who took a personal phone call in the bar while he was supposed to be cooking my meal, is leaving you on Sept 24th 2007 to be a chef in New York city. But don't worry I think he will fail there and be back to make more sand stuffing for you soon.

We liked it very much
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/16/07
My Husband and I stayed at the Shalimar last Summer. We origianlly booked the room for two nights and extended it to 4. We were able to put our boat right across the street which was so convenient. We enjoyed going out on the lake and the idea that our boat was parked next to a very nice gated rental community. We enjoyed a pizza one night at the Pub and shared it with some other very satisfied and friendly guests. We would definitly go back oh yes the pool and hot tub were awesome
