DON"T GO! Very dissapointed!
By Luke, 10/18/09
THE ONLY GOOD thing I have to say is the Desk Staff/Chef was VERY friendly and helpful... From outside the Inn is very charming then, you walk in the front door.... Looks like last decorated in the early 1980's. Pastel floral wall paper (ripped & worn in many places) covers most walls. Mauve floral couches with torn throw pillows. Pink carpeting, Emerald green carpeting- almost shag-like. TACKY decorating to the max! I expected charming, period decorating that would have enhanced the New England Inn experience. Instead, the Inn has been sorely robbed of all it's authenticity. Also, sheets had hairs on them (not mine). Whole inside desperately needs good scrubbing. Our room had no curtains, no sweet quilt- instead just a shade and cheesy walmart bed in a bag kind of comforter, and an old one at that. Bathroom was okay but could have been cleaner. All over the inn there were signs of shotty carpentry/workmanship. The owner Must invest some money in this place. And if they don't, then it should be advertised as an inexpensive place for college kids during ski season. This is the only clientel that won't mind the state of the inn. Oh yeah, breakfast was okay.

Yes, New Rooms, New Innkeeper
By Bob, 01/16/09
We stayed this month and had a great time. The new assitant innkeeper is doing a great job. Very clean, breakfast was good and our room out back with the Jacuzzi was PERFECT! There has been a change here and it's great. How can you go wrong at $239 for the weekend.

Cross the Isaac Merrill House off your list !
By Ron, 11/20/08
Our romantic get away at the Isaac Merrill House was a dirty little room with furniture that actually fell apart if you moved it. The room was not well maintained, it actually looked like they got the furniture from the scrap heap, not even Salvation Army quality. The bathroom fixtures are held together with bailing wire. The TV screen was only 10 inches across. The website photos totally misrepresents the experience. To add insult to injury, they have the gall to include a 15% tip automatically in the bill. I am forced to dispute the charges with my credit card because the absentee manager wouldn't call me back and when finally I got them on the phone he hung up on me! You definitely want to cross them off your list! I wish I had read the reviews.

Give it a miss
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/24/06
Doesn't live up to the advertising. Very tired and run down. Walls very thin so very noisy. Bathrooms need renovation. No staff present in the evening. Breakfast looks better than it actually was.

My first weekend away in years
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/09/06
The house is very nice from afar. We stayed in the premium room with a gas fireplace, and a jacuzzi for two. The jacuzzi was not for two. The room was very large, and empty. Too bad they didn't use some of that room for the bathroom. It was small, but not cozy. The room was in very bad need of an overhaul. We have spent a quarter of the price we spent for that room, on accommodations ten times better. My suggestion to see the house the best way ... from afar.

Very Disappointed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/30/06
The inn is very shabby and unkept. Whoever owns it is just making money and doesn't care about how it looks. What a waste of my money----my house is better than that.

Stay away
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/04/06
During one winter weekend we were in our cold room and noticed that the bathroom curtain was quite animated. It turned out that the window leaked mass quantities of air. Had to find the owner to locate a "portable heater" that didn't quite work to heat the room. This owner specializes in purchasing distressed properties for little to no money and then running them further into the ground. This inn was purchased for $125,000. during the economic downturn. The former Sir John motel and the Whitney inn, among others suffered the same fate. They also own the Dana Place Inn, a poster child for the no maintenance approach to inns. P.S. The only good reviews were obviously written by the owner. It's in his "language" and embodies his idiosyncracies. He spends his time flitting around the other B&B's looking for "opportunities" to purchase newly distressed properties.

Terrible Value
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/17/06
We went for Memorial Day weekend and were hoping for a nice clean B&B close to the shops. The person who checked us in had no clue what they were doing. The rooms had ants crawling all over and they had not yet installed the AC's so it was too hot to bear and the caretaker had no idea where the AC's were nor were there any fans they could provide. Breakfast was unable to keep up with the demand of the clients so people were waiting for over 20 mins just to get food, and there was only enough for 4 ppl at a time. Terrible experience
