Don't be fooled by the web site
By JayS, 9/25/11
We have traveled the US and Europe and even stayed at their sister property Wentworth by the Sea. We selected the Bar Harbor Regency Holiday Inn based on their very enticing website and traveled all the way from NC to visit Bar Harbor. WRONG! The Bar Harbor Regency Holiday Inn is the worst “resort hotel” we have ever stayed in. Our first introduction was a manager walking down the middle of the driveway in front of the hotel that did not even acknowledge us or courteously move off the driveway to permit us to pull in front of the hotel to unload. The bellhop then tried to sell us a “used” pass to Arcadia Park as we attempted to unload luggage. As we moved into our room a couple maids and maintenance people were hanging out talking in the halls and did not offer any greeting or even move out of the way, requiring us to walk around them to get to our room. Stewman’s Lobster Pound (one of the main reasons we selected this hotel) was closed, the Tiki bar was closed (even though people were swimming and lounging by the pool), the Edenfield Restaurant was below par (mayonnaise on the chair, poor quality food, wait staff with an attitude, etc.), the Haba Jave coffee shop was hardly ever open. We put the do not disturb sign on the door while at breakfast but took it off when we left for Arcadia National Park about 9AM. When we returned at 4:30 to shower for dinner the room had not been cleaned or serviced. Two different managers refused to offer any courtesy discount for the poor service. I had booked and received a confirmation for 3 nights. When we checked in they had us confirmed for only 2 nights. Basically this hotel looks nice on their website but don’t be fooled, they can’t do much right, they were not accommodating and need a crash course in customer service. Unfortunately, this hotel left us with a bad impression of Bar Harbor and no desire to return.

Disappointing
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/7/10
One of the worst Holiday Inns I have ever stayed in. The views were good when we finally got our room. The room was dirty and the up front service was terrible. REALLY needs an update to the rooms and better staff training.

FABULOUS BEAUTIFUL VIEW but....
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/17/09
Just returned from the Holiday Inn Sunspree. The view was gorgeous however it may be due to the economy but they are really short staffed. In the restaurant your waiter is doing the job normally done by three and taking care of lots of tables; patience and understanding will go a long way. The hotel is starting to show signs that it needs a bit of an upgrade as it looks a little outdated. Beds are comfortable but again since they are short staffed (two people to clean an entire floor) it does take a while for your room to be cleaned and things like emptying garbage pail may take a day or two.. Overall everyone is really nice and helpful but they are very understaffed.

great stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/24/09
This is a fine resort for a good value. Clean rooms in great condition with prompt and courteous service, though a knowlegable concierge would have been helpful. Be sure to specify a room with view. Rooms are standard hotel size/layout and quiet. Fantastic pool--great for kids; family friendly. Breakfast buffet is excellent; but the dinner view is better than the food. Grounds & lobby are elegant. Nice location. all in all, a great value--we went last year & are going back again this year.

Disappointed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/26/08
Grounds were beautiful. On-site restaurant was very good. Housekeeping needs help. Ran out of in-room coffee, wash cloths and hand towels. Sink not clean on check-in. Room condition was poor: moisture between panes of one window, carpet at door to balcony worn and actually shredded.

Try staying somewhere else
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/15/07
We stayed at this hotel 4 years ago and had a good (average) experience. This time was a different story. The room was the best they had available, for $199. The first thing I noticed was the dirty window, so you could not enjoy the view (I also wished they'd told me the room is on the 1st floor). I opened the balcony door and the balcony and the plastic furniture were covered with grass clippings and dirt (apparently from all the grass cutting), you could not step out witout bringing the dirt back into the room. The room was fine but the bathroom had a dirty soap dish, the Kleenex box had its last sheet, the fan was extreemly LOUD (it switches on automatically when you switch on the light) and the towels were not of the best quality. The bathroom needed some renovations for the price they charge. The corridor smelled with a deodorizer as if they were trying to mask some smell. I stayed in much better rooms for $99. Basically, my complain is that the room did not reflect the price. The view was the only thing going for this room but being from Boston the ocean view did not make up for the room itself. Luckily I need to stay one day only. On the plus side, the grounds were nicely maintained and the location was good, very close to downtown Bar Harbor. Initially I wanted to book a better place but the hotels' web sites showed no vacancy. I should had called them directly since when we arrived in Bar Harbor I saw that there was vacancy at those places.

This place is a dump
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/14/07
This is the dirtiest hotel I have ever stayed at. There was mildew in the bathroom, the ceiling was leaking and falling apart. The furniture was stained with i don't know what. The sheets where old and ragged. I talked to a number of other guests and they all had complaints. I will never stay at another Holiday Inn.

Don't make this mistake
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/24/07
Rooms weren't ready at 4:00 for check in after long drive-common complaint as the lobby was packed. My wife checked our room as it was being cleaned and almost threw up from the mold/smoke smell. They agreed to downgrade us to a "partial ocean view" Staff was courteous but not helpful. Only one washer/dryer for entire hotel. Food was overpriced (not a huge surprise for Bar Harbor in Aug) but we were able to find much better meals/values in town. Room was much smaller than the one we left behind in Rockland which was such a joy when it poured. Don't get sucked in by the pool/waterfront location-there are much better alternatives.

The Website photos do not show it's true beauty
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/23/06
Beautiful! Right on the water! Was cold in August for us Floridian, we were in sweaters. Great restaurants on water with gorgeous view but too expensive! Room was nice, had Bath & Body works cool citrus basil stuff that I love! Bed was OK, a bit hard for me. Bathroom big and nice counter space, good in room coffee. One guy clerk at front a bit snobby but girls were great. Had laundry, but was $2.00 to wash, and $4.00 to dry. Grounds very pretty, gardens very nice! heater in room kept us cozy. No smoking anywhere (ARRG!), but window opens wide, no screen, and you can hang your whole body out and head out and smoke if you must so room won't smell! Not fun but better than leaving room in cold of night.
