Not all it's cracked up to be
October 2004 is when I visited Sydney.
When I arrived at the hotel, the folks at the desk were very nice and also very helpful as my 10 day vacation went along. The problems I had while staying there though included the following:
1) the windows wouldn't close all the way. This caused a big problem, even though I was on the 10th floor. I couldn't drown out the sound of the noises from the surroundings (mainly the emergency vehicles that happen to be located about a block or so south of the hotel---which I didn't find out about until I made my way exploring the city one day) because the windows were thin. It also didn't keep any critters out (moths). I was hoping to have a room that was up higher up than 10 floors, but apparently they lease those rooms out.
2) the bathroom. You think you had stepped into a sardine can when you stepped into the bathroom. VERY VERY SMALL it was indeed. Not enough room for more than one in there at a time, so this wouldn't be the place to stay if you're traveling with kids.
3) the furniture. Talk about outdated and unsafe! In the room there was a desk, a loveseat, and also a table with 3 chairs. I'm guessing from the look of it that the desk and table set were going on the 20 year mark. If I was going to work on anything needing a hard surface to write on, I had to either sit on the love seat or the bed with a book for support.
4) the elevators. Again, very small and cramped. Quite noisy and, I believe, outdated also. They had to be worked on while I stayed there, making me more weary about using them.
Overall, it was clean and the folks were very nice, but it needs some major updating for people to feel safe while staying there.
