Description

Since 1890, the Imperial hotel has catered to royalty, statesmen, fabled celebrities and the leaders of international commerce. Luxury is the keyword. The 1923 building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright was lost in a fire, but a vestige of it survives in the art-deco Old Imperial Bar on the mezzanine level. Rooms are superb, with private writing desks, three telephones, individual environment control systems, remote control TV with bedside consoles and a spaciousness rarely encountered in Tokyo hotels. The staff can greet guests in five languages. Ginza is just behind the hotel, which faces Hibiya Park and the Imperial Palace grounds.

Tokyo's Only \"Grand Hotel\" - Fabulous - and Pricey
By ZAINICHIBEIJIN, 6/30/11
The Imperial exudes a uniquely Japanese welcome - they don't think like the chain hotel manuals, and it shows. Surprises. Some thrilling, some confusing. You feel like you are the only guest sometimes. They can anticipate more than you want them to sometimes. Imperial Floor rooms have self filling bathtubs and music while it's done, and every conceivable gadget, a la japonais. Incredible beds! These top level rooms are expensive -- about the same as 5 star hotels in Paris or London. But Imperial Hotel isn't gaudy, and you can sense its coolly understated Frank Lloyd Wright history from the decor. They bow to you contsnatly and know your name. And your habits. Like a ryokan almost. The food is also expensive - but their quietly sumptuous and non-flashy (and not very French-looking) French restaurant Saisons is probably the most delicious place to eat in the whole city. Try French toast from baguettes for breakfast. Bring money. The exterior of this hotel needs sprucing up. And some of the guests seems snobbish. But when you check put (and recover from the bill) you feel you have experienced some kind of Japanese living legend. The cookie-cutter Hiltons, Hyatts, Peninsulas and Westins just cannot compare, although they are often more modern.

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/12/10
I don't understand why this old hotel is so highly evaluated. Just old and ordinary

I have been travelling quite a lot around the world, but this hotel is by far the best and, trust me, it will make you come back. Visit Tokyo in April, it is just wonderful. hope you will enjoy it.

A lovely experience
By Ibrahim, 9/26/07
I stayed at Imperial Hotel for 5 nights in April and it was a lovely experience. The hotel staff were very polite and always there to attend to me. They had many restaurants to satisfy different tastes and needs. You could easily exchange your unused meal coupons for chocolates and other goodies. The rooms were very clean with all the amenities needed to keep you comfortable.the hotel is well located for easy movement to other parts of the city. I will stay there again if I find myself in Tokyo.
