A mercantile approach to hospitality

This hotel boasts of a prestigious past but is run presently, alas, with an approach of fleecing the customer, especially foreigners. As is endemic in India a discrimination by law is made against any foreign tourists with differential rates for locals and foreigners. This is fundamentally wrong even under the Indian constitution which stands for equality.
In addition, the rates quoted in US dollars are converted into Indian Rupees at an artifically inflated rate which defies any norms of decency and which when reconverted into dollars increases the effective rate of a room by as much as by 10%, a hidden sting for the customer and an extra income for the hotel. Also watch out for the luxury tax levied by the Delhi Govt. which is on the rack rate (higher rate sometimes).
An airport pick up is proposed at Rs. 4500 (ca. US$100) this rate is higher than any other country, including that for the US!!!
The hotel staff when confronted with such anomalies, just is not able to redress these mainly because of lack of decisional power and empowerment by the management and the owner. Be careful when booking by internet multiple stays as the system reverts back to the current month for the second booking without you even noticing it and thus may lead to you being charged for a stay you do not perhaps even envisage!!!
