The Finest...
By ,
We stayed in five luxury hotels for business throughout India. This hotel was by far, my favorite. The service was impeccable and the building was designed with class and a wonderful sense of history. The food was excellent. Our stay there was my favorite part of our trip.

A mercantile approach to hospitality
By ,
This hotel boasts of a prestigious past but is run presently, alas, with an approach of fleecing the customer, especially foreigners. As is endemic in India a discrimination by law is made against any foreign tourists with differential rates for locals and foreigners. This is fundamentally wrong even under the Indian constitution which stands for equality. In addition, the rates quoted in US dollars are converted into Indian Rupees at an artifically inflated rate which defies any norms of decency and which when reconverted into dollars increases the effective rate of a room by as much as by 10%, a hidden sting for the customer and an extra income for the hotel. Also watch out for the luxury tax levied by the Delhi Govt. which is on the rack rate (higher rate sometimes). An airport pick up is proposed at Rs. 4500 (ca. US$100) this rate is higher than any other country, including that for the US!!! The hotel staff when confronted with such anomalies, just is not able to redress these mainly because of lack of decisional power and empowerment by the management and the owner. Be careful when booking by internet multiple stays as the system reverts back to the current month for the second booking without you even noticing it and thus may lead to you being charged for a stay you do not perhaps even envisage!!!

Rip Off

Completely out of whack in terms of price. Food was average and so was the serivce.Had ordered a simple club sandwich which took for ever. The indian restaurant Spice Route serves the most ordinary Indian food in the city. Posibly the most grossly over rated hotel in Delhi

An Oasis in Delhi
By ,
The Imperial Hotel is truly the nicest place to come to , not only to spend a few nights, but also for a short break from the madness of Delhi. It is situated in a beautiful old building right smack in the middle of the city's downtown area on Janpath hidden behind huge palm trees. When you are completely exhausted from running around in circles on Connaught Place, the heat is getting to you, or you just have to surround yourself with beauty, this is the place to hang out. Here you will find the coolest, cleanest and most relaxing environment. Come for a great lunch buffet, tea or a stiff drink. It is of course very colonial, but if you can bear it, enjoy all the 5stars it has to offer. Most recommendable: beautiful toilets (this cannot be overrated in a city such as Delhi where finding a decent loo is quite a task). In winter months you must sit on the terrace or winter garden. Beautifully dressed and very friendly staff! There is also a nice little book shop inside. Everyone loves the Imperial.

Snotty unacceptable service
By ,
The imperial indeed lives up to its name in terms of atmosphere and location, however a hotel that request 20 dollar surcharge per person for non guests to eat in empty restaurants can only be called misguided business sense at worst snotty. I was actually considering staying there next time, this time around stayed in the Oberoi, needless to say ... all of the pluses of this hotel are obliterated by this experience, the restaurants in these hotels already charge about 20 times the average meal price in Delhi that should be sufficient. Anyway I give it a firm thumbs down with that experience, and it will never see a dollar of my money ever again.
