Protea Hotel Marine, Nelson Mandela Bay

We visited this hotel for a conference at Nelson Mandela University (a few miles away) but it was well worth the location distance. The rooms were a little small, but clean airy and had fantastic views no matter where you were in the hotel. The amenities were simple and worked well, though one of our outlets didn't. My only complaint would be about the shower, the curtain didn't extend all the way, and there was a window right in the shower, but I'm not sure this is the same for all rooms. But the best part about this hotel is the staff. They are probably the reason that Port Elizabeth is called the Friendly City. Everyone from the doorman to the hotel driver, the maid to the restaurant servers were able to help us enjoy our visit to Port Elizabeth, even giving us great directions to some of Port Elizabeth's nearby game parks (such as Addo and Kragga Kamma). I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Port Elizabeth. Only the most cynic critic could resist this charming hotel. Five out of Five stars.

went as member of group evening meal was awful, cold fatty lamb served by surly waitresses only half the group were offeredrolls & butter & although coffee/tea was on the menu these never appeared. Breakfast next morning supplies ran out & long time before they were replenished, agin surly unhelpful staff didn't clear tables manager ran around clearing up. Felt their must have been a staff problem/breakdown in communication as this is in a beautiful hotel in a wonderful location.

hotel tolerable until no electricity (oh, we had A candel and even a torch, very nice!!!) . :D had to sleep on the floor cause of the horrible sofabed. city and the surroundings straight from the ass. DO NOT GO TO P.E!!!! EVER!!! cape town nice, p.e nooooot!

Excellent hotel in wonderful location. Top marks. We stayed for 2 nights but wished it could have been for a longer spell. Maybe we'll be able to pay a return visit someday.
