French Bums
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/28/08
Watch out for the French thieves which hang around this town. They are a pack of Pricks. Lie, cheat and steal. I knew Louie Terminus from Chicago and remember his dog Thartus to. Real nice folks they were and run a nice hotel here.

Terminus Hotel, Niamey
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/30/07
I stayed here several days in November 2007. English speaking staff is minimal. Otherwise, everything is good. Be careful what you eat -- this is a problem in Niger. Be sure everything is cooked well, and forget fresh vegetables and milk products. Be careful about meat, as well. Bottled water only. The location of the hotel is good -- very close to the center of town. Rooms are quiet and very clean. But, this is NOT of the "international" standard of the two top hotels in Niamey. This is more like a low class American motel -- but clean. It is of very high standard for Africa, apart from the ultra upscale International style hotels found in most capitals. The security at the hotel is excellent. Down the street is a pharmacy, a gas station, and a small grocery store for drinks, biscuits, tinned fruit juice. There is also a telephone office down the street, to make cheap land-line calls abroad. I liked Niger a lot -- very traditional and uniformly of sustenance-style living. A few fat cats around -- primarily government people and a few rich guys -- and these are always very fat men, while the other members of the population are extremely thin. Life is hard here, but it is as it has been for thousands of years. So, it is "poor" only in relation to our modern Western standards. It is a magnificent place, but not as complex as Mali, for instance. One should try to go to the desert, to Agadez, but I could not because of political problems. I traveled with a company named Afrik Horizons out of Burkina Faso. STAY AWAY FROM THEM. Horrible service and arrangements, absolutely cheats --- sorry to say, they are French who have lived in the area a long time. They ruined my trip. Good luck !

Waves of Stench
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/14/07
The staff must pee on the floor along with the guests in this place. Stunk like a urinal in 110 degree heat. Maybe its those dogs the other reviewers saw wandering in and out of guest rooms. A good dose of puppy wiss will linger for days and under high heat will eat up over time most anything made up of the common elements off of the periodic table. I use it for termite control all the time.

A dog called Louie the wonder dog kept wandering in and out of the filthy unsanitary room. The room was so dirty it was unsafe to touch anything.

Terminus and Thartus
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/9/07
This is the hotel that the famous Chicago hoodlum, Louie, the Head Wacker, Terminus started back in the 20's to hide out when things got "hot" back in "chitown". Louie's nickname was "caligula" after the great Roman empire king. Louie sure knew how to throw a party. He had a stupid dog named "thartus" and he would walk the dog every day. When he would walk people would say "here comes Terminius and Thartus". Thartus had a bunch of pups named "cesar, barrabus, judas, antionius, nefrateri, wonkanakus, hakidakus, soritirium, nogaldalpidus, ankatripidus, aldolfadalpius, clapatorium, stinkonium, oderapolieum, cranksorius, dorvaniapolis, augustsohodopidus, and finally "Fido the wonder Dog". Louie got his other nickname "the head wacker" after he cut the heads off of all the pups cause he didn't like their names. The motto at the hotel is "If you don't like us keep it to yourself". I guess they don't call it the Hotel Terminus for no reason.

Best Hotel in Niamey
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/24/07
Hotel Terminus is great. It is in a central location, very clean, and has a nice pool. There are peacocks that wander around--even babies! The chambres superieurs are the best value--about 7.000 CFA more (approximately $15) than the bungalows and much nicer. Once in a while there's a problem with plumbing and with shower doors that fall off but the staff is more than ready to come fix it. I didn't stay in the suites but I heard they are also nice. The restaurant is okay; just don't order the pizza. The brochettes are really good. The bar has good sandwiches. It is a great place to people watch--random people from all over the world ending up in this hotel. The staff is great and will let you extend your check-out time for no extra fee if they are not busy. It may be a little expensive for budget travellers(I think the chambres superieurs were a little over $100 per night) but you may want to splurge on a night after
