The New Look to an Old Favorite
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/14/11
I revisited Kenya for two months last summer. One spot I was eager to see again was the lovey old Norfolk, only to fine it has changed drastically. Evidently it now belongs to a world wide chain and what a difference. Basically it has lost its mystique and romance. I am so sad, but next trip will check it out once more to see if it has improved. Bring back the old Terrace Room!

Memorable honey moon.
By Antony K, 5/12/07
We did one day of our honeymoon in december 2006 and it was a wonderful experience. The rooms, beddings and towels were flawless clean. Will definitely be there some other time. Compared to our other destinations,Norfolk is definetely a cut above the rest .It was to us mainly a winner in the cleanliness, room finishing and the service was also very good. The walkways and setting was very unique and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

next time I'll bring my own bed.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/21/07
The hotel is OK but the beds are terrible. We just stayed one night after a long flight from Europe and we both did not sleep at all. No good start for a holiday

Historic appeal and memorabilia abound!
By stewarts, 1/9/07
Jambo. This is the perfect launching point for a Kenyan safari. The staff is gracious and helpful. This hotel reflects the history of Nairobi and Hemingway and Teddy Roosevelt who stayed there during the old hunting days. Christmas of 2003 celebrated its 100th birthday. Amazing old photos adorn the walls iin the hallways, displaying the images of Hemingway and Roosevelt and countless other dignitaries. There are pictures on Karen von Blixen (Out of Africa) and her husband too to name a few others. The hotel completed a renovation in 2003 in readiness for the 100th B'Day. The renovation has brightened up the lobby, dining, bar and common areas and made everything more spacious looking. They have a very nice gift shop stocked with nicer things that you may not find outside. You can even buy SIM card refills for your phone there if you need to. We have stayed there in 1990, 1993, 1996, and 2003, and will be back to begin our next safari in August of 2007.

Hop to visit again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/15/06
What a lovely place to start our safari in August 2006!Every single staff member was helpful and very friendly, our room, as well as the day room we used, was comfortable and nicely appointed. Sights and city destinations are all quite close; if Micato Safaris uses this hotel, you know it's a good one!AND....the top hatted, formally dressed doorman was an extra nice touch!

Great Arrival and Departure Point
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/25/06
The Norfolk is a great arrival and departure point in Nairobi. A meal on the Lord Delamere terrace makes one feel immediately at home in Africa. The service staff is incredibly friendly everywhere in the hotel. The day-use rooms are less than inspiring, but who really cares. The pool and gardens make this an incredibly family-friendly hotel - just ask our kids.

Zamani
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/18/06
It was a wonderful friendly place where all the air line flight staff used to stay. The pool was idyllic and yet had an undercurrent of both latent excitment and glorious relaxation. The staff were unobtrusive yet attentive. A memorable watering hole.....Central and yet not glitzy; fashionable but not noveau rich. .....but that was forty years ago....Hope it is just the same.......I think it is. A home away from home.

loyal client
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/20/05
As residents in Nairobi, my wife and I, for the past ten years have often frequented the Norfolk Hotel. I enjoyed dinning on the Lord Delamere Terrace and at the prestigious Ibis Grill Restaurant, which I found to be the best in Nairobi. My favourite dish was the Giant Prawns. I have, unforutnately noticed that the standard in food quality has declined since my visits since the late month of June. I am affraid that I shall not be frequenting the hotel as I am no longer satisifed with the service and food quality received.

I love the Norfolk Hotel!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/4/05
I've stayed at the Norfolk several times and it compares well with many of the best hotels I've seen around the world. And its amazing history makes it that much more special. The rooms are spacious, tasteful and up to 5 star standards. The restaurant selection is excellent, with my favorite being the casual Lord Delamere's Terrace. The service is gracious, prompt, friendly and simply excellent. If you simply need a very good hotel, the Norfolk confidently fits the bill. If you are familiar with the history of Nairobi and this hotel, your stay will be an added pleasure. I always look forward to visiting the Norfolk.
