Bad service
By Ben, 8/25/08
The front desk staff is so arrogant and unwilling to help. We have tried to change the room after our constant complaints that we have leakage in the bathroom and the front desk staff, Marianne , was so arrogant and unwilling to help that we made a complaint to her manager. She also didn't have a time to hear our complaint and to resolve it so we decided to leave this hotel and not to recommend it to our friends. Ben

European charm, genuinely friendly, helpful staff dedicated to the comfort of their guests. View from ocean side rooms provide hours of entertainment. Tour and activities scheduling permits views of Croatian culture. Extremely tasteful and well presented dining experiences. Really good wine selections.

Great view and location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/17/07
This hotel is right at the beach and only a few minutes walk to the city-castle. Indeed the best view and location you can get in this town. I have been to Dubrovnik three times, and this is the best in my mind. I just spent a week attending a meeting in this hotel. The view is so great that many of us do not want to go back to the meeting room after our coffee breaks. You can see the city-castle, the island, the sea and many boats and cruise ships coming in. Fantastic! The hotel staff was very friendly and attentive to our needs. All speaks good English. The hotel room rate is quite high, although breakfast buffet is included. If you could, pick rooms with the sea view as some rooms face the street wall. Also pick rooms on the new wings as the old wings fire alarm is not totally set up yet. In case of alarm in the old wing, there is no sound, and they would be supposed to call your room to warn you.

Awfull rooms and arrogant staff
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/12/07
Hi stay away from this hotel and its standard rooms. You can find better hotel than this. This really isn't a five star hotel. We also found the management not helpfull and arogant. The hotel manager didn't have a time to speak with us after our constant complaints to the arogant reception manager. This hotel is craving for better management. Will not come here ever again or recommend to anyone! Jack and Jane

Fantastic place to stay!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/29/06
My girlfriend and I stayed there during November 2005 and we had a wonderful time. The hotel staff was friendly and always there for us. There is a great bar for late evening wine drinking and great to make new friends from all over the world. The post office, a great pastry shop and several good restaurants are within walking distance. If we ever venture back there, we will stay there. I highly recommend this hotel.

Best location!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/3/06
The best part of this hotel is the concrete "beach" and the location! The beach: It's really a concrete platform that you sunbathe on. You can then jump into the sea as if it was a pool! Very different, very fun. The hotel is located a short walk from the walled city, so there are many places to see and go eat w/o having to hail a cab. The service at the hotel? Not so great. But, that's Croatia. It's very green as far as being a tourist destination compared to other places. But, it helps with the charm I guess. One thing: READ THE TIPPING GUIDELINES BEFORE YOU GO! I tipped the desk clerk for getting a reservation for a restaurant and he threw my money 10 feet onto another table. They don't tip here, or if they do, they don't tip very much. I felt very stupid.

Travelers from Florida - USA
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/20/06
After much searching on the web and help from a very good Dubrovnik local travel agent we decided on the Excelsior Hotel. It turned out to be a wonderful choice. The staff spoke very good English and were very helpful and kind to us Americans trying to find our way around. The views from this hotel must be the best. We had a corner room suite in the older part that was a bit worn but the pure size and two beautiful bathrooms and view made up for it. View of sea and Old Town. Old Town at night lite up was fabulous. Location is perfect just a short walk to Old Town and restaurants. The Rustic Taverna at the Hotel was a wonderful experience not to be missed, however a little expensive but worth it. The breakfasts in the beautiful seaside dining room are abundant with a wide array of selections and very courteous and efficient wait staff. I would go back in a minute and wish we could have stayed longer. The spa and pool were under construction but that was of no concern to us, but if it is for you check and see if the remodeling has been completed.s

Willl be back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/20/05
We had great experience in this hotel. My wife and I came on a short weekend in October as a part of romantic package. Would like to recommend this hotel with stunning view to the city center. Our overall experience is what to say great. Staff very friendly and willing to help and make our stay as great as possible. We have done 2 trips on the near islands Elaphiti and Mljet, no time to visit other parts of this great country. We will come back to Dubrovnik next spring Thank you guys Anette and Jacques Deveraux
