An absolute gem
What's not to like? Location: Across the street from Alameda Park and the Diego Rivera Museum, down the street from the Revolution Monument and Museum. A ten minute walk to the Palace of Fine Arts, with its art and Folkloric Ballet shows. Another ten minutes and you are in the Zocalo, which houses the National Palace (and the wonderful Diego Rivera murals), Museum of the City of Mexico, the National Cathedral, the Templo Mayor (museum and Aztec artifacts) and on many days an outdoor market.
The hotel has a wonderful Spanish restaurant, a cafe for breakfast (ala carte or buffet) and lunch, a Lobby bar serving, among other things, Mexican brandy, beer and tequila; snacks and a piano player just add to the atmosphere. The bar is visited by tourists and locals alike. The concierge is helpful with arranging taxis (you should not hail one on the street), day trips (Xochimilco, The Pyramids of Teotihuacan, Puebla highly recommended) and just being helpful and friendly. The lobby area is beautiful; you can be at the bar or just relax in the area outside it.
The rooms are spacious (I had a wonderful single) and the bathroom fantastic (large and loaded with amenities); coffee maker and internet access just add to the joy of being here. I shall return!
