Check your bill!

My husband and I returned from Costa Rica and a stay at Si Como No last week. Our flight there had been delayed one night due to an ice storm. When I called Si Como No, they said they would try to sell the room for that night but otherwise we would be charged. We arrived the next evening, and the person checking us in offered us the information that the room had been sold the previous night and we would not have to pay for it. When we got the bill however, that first night did appear on the bill along with 4 phone calls we did not make, and we found that we were overcharged for one of the tours. The girl at the desk went make to the manager's office 3 times trying to find out what to do about the charges and kept telling us that she could not refund the first night. The manager finally came out of hiding and we called him over. He was very rude. He told us the room was not sold and even if it was we would not get a refund--that was the policy. I told him what we had heard from the person on the phone and the person that checked us in that it had sold and it would be refunded. He said they were both wrong and the person who checked us in would have to pay if we didn't and he would not do that to his staff. I then said fine and asked for his Manager's card. Minutes later we were being refunded for the room, extra calls and overcharge on the tour. My husband told me later that one of the other staff had walked up and asked the girl working with us how much they decided to let us have (in Spanish--which I don't know) and she responded-everything they asked for. In my opinion this was unprofessional behavior all around, and we should not have had to speak up and argue for Si Como No to do the right thing! So, before you go, decide that you are comfortable fighting for yourself and know that Si Como No is out for themselves.
