Worst Super 8 ever!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/29/08
This Super Eight was the only hotel that had rooms available for miles around. After driving from Pensacola, and not finding any hotels with rooms available, I finally came upon this one in Crestview. It was and older type "outside entrance Motel" before
Super Eight took it over, and has had many coats of paint in a poor effort to make it look better. I checked in at 2:20 AM, and the nite clerk gave me a $ 5.00 discount on the room rate because it was so late, so I paid $45.00. The door to my room had been repainted over peeling paint, and I should have taken my warning then and there. I tried to turn on the light, but the switch by the door didn't work, so I had to leave the door Open to the Outside, while I searched for a light in the room. The capeting in the room was grungy, and did not look like it had been cleaned, ever, and I did not even want to put my bare feet on it. The bed and pillow was confortable, and I slept well. In the morning, I went to take a shower, and the Hot Water faucet DID NOT WORK!
It spun freely on the wall. Thinking, maybe the cold water faucet controlled both hot and cold, I tried that, but only cold water came out. I cannot believe that the person that stayed before me did not complain about NO HOT WATER, or that Housekeeping had not reported it....I don't clean a tub with ice cold water, do you?
So I had to just wash up using the tiny sink that had hair in it, (GROSS),(and also hair on the counter) using the greyish wash cloth provided. I put a towel on the grungy carpet to stand on.
I got dressed and went to the office to report the hot water situation, and to ask for a Partial Refund of my room price. I expect three basic things from a hotel; that it be clean, comfortable beds, and a hot shower. My room failed on two counts, and so I asked for a refund of Half of the cost. Considering that I had checked in at 2:20 AM, and that it was now
only 8 AM, I didn't feel that I was being unreasonable.
The AM desk clerk offered me a $5.00 refund, which I found laughable. I asked for the manager, who of course wasn't there,
(Sunday morning), and again I asked the clerk for a partial refund.
She was rude and unpleasant, and when I told her that I was refusing her offer of the $5.00, and going to speak to the manager on Monday, she snatched it off of the counter and threw it into the cash drawer and slammed it shut and then stood there with her arms crossed over her chest.
So,I was going to pay half of the room charge, had she been reasonable, but her attitude toward me was so rude and snotty, that I have called Amex to dispute the whole charge.
I will Never stay at that Super Eight again.
