Southwind Inn, Port Isabel

From the time we arrived, we were pampered and catered to. No request was ignored and the owners were very responsive, couteous and friendly. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. The pool was very soothing after a day at the beach. Our vacation was originally scheduled for one week, but we were lucky to be able to extend our stay for another. As far as we are concerned, there is no other hotel in the South Padre Island area.

I found the reservation process very easy and was looking forward to the stay wondering what the SouthWind would be like since the price was so reasonable. The room was a nice double room with a kitchenette. Everything was very clean and smelled fresh. We stayed 5 days and each day we would lave and when we returned the room was clean and beds re-made. Clean towels everyday also. The hosts were very nice and accomidating. We had some equipment with us that they gave us some space to store. The check out was very smooth and when I left I knew that this is a place I will stay again.

My husband and I decided to take a last minute trip to South Padre on the Tues. before the July 4th long weekend. Amazingly, we were able to get a room for the Wed. and Thurs. nights. at the Southwind Inn. I can't say enough good things about the owners. They are super-friendly and just bent over backwards to accommodate us. We found that a dip in the pool after a long day on Padre Island was very refreshing (and romantic) Luckily there was a cancellation for the Friday night of July 3 and so we decided to spend another day there. We do alot of traveling and this hotel is most definitely one of our best finds.

we stayed the new year eve very clean place, i would say that the only bad thing about it was the bed wont that comfortable. i would go back there the price is not bad at all as well

We stayed here Aug 7th thru Aug 10. I would have to say that the rooms were very clean, the staff was extremly friendly and the prices were great. From the hotel to the beach was about a 10 minute drive. I would very much recommend the Southwind and you can bet we will stay there on our next trip to South Padre.

Wonderful stay. Clean rooms. Beautiful pool. Very accomodating hosts. We are definetely going back next summer.

we stayed a week here. its a basic kitchenette, two beds, allows pets, great pool! Quiet!. we stayed gone all day and came in late and wet, used all the towels and called owners for more each night and got them no problem. cheapest place to stay and its close to everything, the bridge to padre is 1 block away. unless you need expensive lavish accomodations, not just a pool and a place to sleep, this is not your hotel. We will go back! The office is closed alot, but they are home in evening and put up with us. thats saying alot! I had no problem with cemetary accross the street. they were quite too!

My husband and I were celebrating our 39th wedding anniversary and we could not have picked a better place. It is a small place but the owners were so friendly and helpful and made us feel so welcome. We had our privacy and it is a pet friendly Inn. We made reservations before we left for a return visit. We were very happy and impressed.

My husband and I have stayed at Southwind Inn numerous times in the past and we have not had any problem with the hotel or its owers. We usually stay there once or twice a year and the owers are very hospitable and honest and we have got to know them well. It is hard for us to imagine that they would do anything irresponsible to their customers. It is not a full service hotel and we, as the customers who like to save money, have to be patient some times to get into a hotel room when we arrive at the hotel late at night. Because there is no one else but the wife and husband, the owners of the hotel, they are not at the office of hotel when we get there late at night or when the owners have a business to attend outside of the hotel. However, the owners usually put a sign let the customer know the time of their return. We have not had any problem getting into room no matter how late we arrived at the hotel in the past. Hence, we will stay there in July again. Also, one of the reasons we like to stay at the Southwind Inn is that seeing the owners of the hotel for they are very friendly and kind. Yang

Don't count on actually staying here, even if you have a reservation. You may end up having to sleep in the car or drive 40 miles inland if the other hotels in the area are booked. Background: We had reservations for late February, made several weeks before. They told us that since we were arriving about 9 PM, we would need to come upstairs to get the room key. We left Houston about 3 PM, and during the entire drive down we called every 15-20 minutes. No one ever answered the phone. When we arrived at the "hotel", there was no one in the office, which had a No Vacancy sign hanging on the door. We tried the phone in front of the office, and no one answered that either. I finally found a back staircase that led to an apartment at the top. It was dark inside, and no one answered the doorbell. I could hear the phone ringing inside from other people trying to call from the phone in front of the office. After a while we gave up and drove down the island until we found another place. We were lucky. I don't know whether they gave our room away or what. I would hate to be staying there if there was a fire or other emergency - the owners seem to be pretty irresponsible.
