5 reviews for Stoughton Inn, Stoughton
very pleasant stay
By Kathleen Madigan, 04/19/09
While I was a little concerned about the amount of noise given a weekend night, a full parking lot and the presence of several younger kids and teens, once inside my room there was no outside noise at all. The spacious room and tiny bathroom was very clean, the bath also having a feature I really like, a bowed shower curtain rod to make more elbow room for bathing. The shower curtain was also sturdy, not the lightweight flimsy kind I've encountered elsewhere. While the bed was much firmer than my bed at home, I had one of the best night's sleep in a long time. The front desk staff was pleasant, efficient and helpful, even with the difficult customer ahead of me. They honored my request for a first floor non-smoking room without a problem, which probably was due to checking in early. Did not partake of the breakfast due to rising late from my deep sleep so cannot review that, but all in all, I would definitely stay here again and bring my bathing suit next time. I don't know if the rate was due to a Madison event that booked all the hotel rooms there, but my only complaint was the rate seemed a little high ($70 plus $10 in taxes) for a non-chain hotel in a small town. That could also have been a function of having booked it online through Expedia though, so next time I will probably just call the hotel directly. I will definitely be choosing this hotel in the future for my several-times-yearly trips to Madison.

Terrible
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/25/07
In addition to the terrible smell and unclean rooms, the outdoor locks did not work. We did not feel safe at this motel. Anyone from the outside could have walked in to the building, from its numerous exterior doors. They had locks that you would slide your room card into, but they were not operating and the doors were always unlocked.

This Place Was A Dump
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/25/07
We spent a weekend at the Stoughton Inn, as everything else in the area was booked up. We always stick to the chain hotels, but decided to take the risk, as we didn't have any other options. This was a huge mistake! As soon as you enter the hotel, you become overwhelmed by the smell of curry being cooked in a nearby room. Obviously, the owners live at the premises and do not utilize exhaust vents in their room. Our room was a non-smoking room, but we could smell cigarette smoke coming through the walls, door, and floor throughout our stay. It was unbearable at times. The bed was very uncomfortable and I had the worst night sleep in years. After showering, and leaving the premises, I felt that I needed to take another shower just to get the smell of the hotel off me. We had to enter the "curry corridor" to reach the front desk to check out. Do yourself a favor and plan ahead. If you can afford to stay elsewhere, just pay the extra and do it.

The car would be a better choice
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/24/07
Let me first say the good part about this hotel. The location is great if you are wanting to stay in Soughton and not spend much money. Now for the rest, you get what you pay for. Service was ok, slow but ok. Cleanliness was just not there. There was no way any of us were walking barefooted on the floor. The smoking rooms are on the ground floor with non smoking on 2nd floor. (think...smoke rises) so yes the smell of smoke was in the room bad. The smell of curry stinched up the entire hotel. The walls were paper thin so you heard every noise from people walking down the halls to slamming doors. Dont bring to many suitcases there is no elevator! We spent as little time as possible at this place and will never go back. I would recommend staying at a bed and breakfast if you want to stay in Stoughton or pay the extra for the three day minimum at the Days inn.

Good value for price
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/05/05
Check-in and check-out was slow. Rooms were clean. Breakfast was bare bones. Still it was good value for the inexpensive price.
