what happened?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/11/12
12 yr customer of the restaurant and the Inn. Learned last night that I am no different than a first time or 1 time customer. Loyalty is a 2 way street

Romantic Restaurant and Great Inn
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/28/11
I love this place! The food is absolutely amazing and worth the price. The rooms are actually very clean and the staff is eager to server. I look forward to going back to this restaurant and Inn.

Wedding Disaster
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/10/11
The Duling-Kurtz House, after assuring my fiance and I that holding our wedding reception there would present little/no complications, and agreeing to host said reception (7 months earlier), contacted my fiance, 4 1/2 months prior to our wedding, and told her 'it just isn't going to work'. My young family, my parents, and numerous frends & family have spent literally ten of thousands of dollars at the Duling-Kurtz House, and their explanation was 'I don't know what to tell you.' The food is good; overpriced, but good, and the atmosphere is charming. If you enjoy good food, and don't mind paying a bit more than is appropriate, the Duling-Kurtz House is, by appearances, a great place to eat. BUT, ladies, if you remember what is was like to plan your wedding, and can imagine the stress/frustration these people have caused my fiance, please consider dining elsewhere. Gentlemen, if you can relate to the feeling of seeing the woman you love in tears by way of someone's lack of consideration/negligence, please consider dining at the Dilworthtown Inn or Vicker's Tavern. Altogether, the Duling-Kurtz House clearly does not & will not appreciate your business, a shocklingly short-sighted characteristic of a much younger business.

FILTHY!! Would never stay at this place again...
By laurih, 6/17/10
We stayed overnight this past weekend. It looked nice enough from the outside and we thought it was a quaint inn. However, once we got upstairs to our room (Winston Churchill suite), we were shocked by how dirty the room was. The bathrooms, which only contained a toilet and shower stall, were disgusting - the shower floors were black with grime and there were huge "hairballs" in the corners behind the toilet; the nightstand was sticky and grimy, the bed had what looked like crumbs in the blankets (like they hadn't been washed after the last guest); there were dead bugs and dustballs on the rug along the baseboards; the sinks, which were in the actual room and not the bathroom, were dirty as well - the sink stopper was completely brown and rusted. As far as breakfast, it consisted of english muffins (not homemade), yogurt and some fruit. All this for $166? I cannot believe they have the nerve to charge that much for a room and can't be bothered to clean it. Speaking of which, when we asked the clerk if we could check out after returning from church in the morning, the cleaning lady overheard and was very rude, saying she had 13 rooms to clean - I had to bite my tongue and refrain from saying something about the condition of our room. Lastly, the room was freezing and no thermostat to lower the a/c, so we had to cover up with the blankets we found the black crumbs on. I guess it's a good thing I was so exhausted from traveling, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to sleep thinking about who else might've shared my bed linens. Just an all-around terrible experience. By the way, we would've stayed at the Hampton Inn (as we've done before), but everything in the area was booked and this was the only lodging that was available...now I know why.

Consistently spectacular
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/26/10
I have been to the DKH at least 3 dozen times in the past 5 years because it is so close to home and our favorite place to dine. Without exception it is consistently spectacular across all areas - food, service, atmosphere etc. To be honest, I dont really pay too much attention to the price because a place like the DKH is worth every cent. I cant possibly think of one negative thing to say.

We can't wait to find an excuse to go back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/22/09
I booked a 2 night stay at Duling-Kurtz Inn for my boyfriend's birthday. I was originally looking at Fairville Inn, but Deb with Air Ventures (local hot air balloon co.) recommended Duling-Kurtz after discussing package details. We stayed in the George Washington Suite. The staff was SO friendly & helpful! (Even helping us unlock the door at 11pm when we couldn't figure out the key). The price for a 2 night stay during the week was such a deal, we just left this morning and already miss it. We were left alone to enjoy the surroundings & Inn by ourselves, no staff bugging us but readily available to answer any & all questions. Our room was very clean, the bed extremely comfortable-we both commented on how well rested we felt. The breakfast each morning was simple & easily taken back to our room, another feature we loved. Overall, I simply do not have one complaint about the experience. I am so grateful for the suggestion, as it helped save SO much money for a 2 night stay; with the same historical charm & comfort of home I was looking for. The negative reviews I read on this site had me a little weary; it seems as if DKH might've read the reviews & made changes as our stay was the perfect romantic, home-away-from-home, charming, comfortable, affordable, 2 night get-away we were hoping for. He was so happy with the experience, commenting on how it was the best birthday he's had in a very, very long time.

Ruined Valentines Day!
By Nick S, 2/16/09
We waited an hour to be seated, despite having reservations. For at least 30 minutes after we arrived nobody was even being seated, but people continued to arrive in droves. The wating area was filled to overflowing with angry Valentines Day diners - way to set a romantic atmosphere! The valet and maitre d were both rude and totally unapologetic. We waited another 20 minutes to even see our waitress after finally being seated. I ordered my steak medium-well but it was so bloody in the middle I couldn't finish it; after the ridiculous wait I did not even bother to send it back. At least the waitress (when we saw her) was nice enough, and even gave us dessert for free. But she recommended we not go there on holidays due to poor service! We will go her one better and never return, period!

I will NEVER return!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/7/09
My husband and I went to Duling Kurtz House for our anniversary last week as it had been recommended by a friend. It was such a horrific experience that neither I nor my friend will ever return! Our waitress was completely unprofessional, not really paying attention to us. Letting empty glasses sit on the table, not refilling our water in a timely fashion...I felt as if I was sitting in a diner! It took about 40 minutes after our appetizers to receive our entrees and once we finally did receive them, our filets were terribly overcooked (we ordered MR and they were MW to W)! And for desert the waitress spilled coffee all down the front of my blouse! And not once through all of this did the manager or the owner come and speak with us! This was definately not worth the time or the money we spent on it!
