Stay at the Windham in Kona instead
By ,
We were charged $55 for 2 small "complimentary" deserts. 3 small orders, of not that great, Sushi and desert was slightly over $185. If thats wasn't bad enough, the place was infested with sand fleas and our ankles were raw for days from all the itching and scratching. This resort is in the midddle of no where, and unless you live for golf and/or have no kids, you will be driving 45 minutes each way, on a single lane highway, in order to find fun and entertainment.

Amazing Place!!!
By ,
We loved this hotel! We stayed there in November and it wasn't too crowded and the service was amazing! The Beachtree restaurant is open again and it is great. The activities are amazing. It has 3 pools and a snorkle pond!! The concierge was great! Must go night snorkling with Manta Rays, snorkle with dolphins and star gaze on the mountain! Recommend renting a car. Amazing very private rooms! Any problems in the past have been solved! Would recommend to everyone I know! So relaxing!!!!

a major disappointment
By ,
We returned to Hualalai last month and were dissatisfied with all the changes: the spa is still under construction, and the new facilities are stark and incomplete. I like to take a jacuzzi before my massage and a steam afterwords; both were unavailable, and no refund was forthcoming although the staff was awash with apologies. The Beachtree restaurant? Gone. Alan Wong's is gone also & the restaurant in its place is barely mediocre and frightfully overpriced. The staff is still wonderful but I heard several other guests complaining, & I'm amazed that the staff can still hold their heads up. Prices on everything have shot way up and quality has gone down. The only good meal we had on property was breakfast, and even that was over $30. We will probably will not return until the management - to use the word charitably - is replaced.

We go back every chance we get
By ,
Great service, location and setting. We started going the first year it was built and have never regretted making a trip back to the hotel. Besides enjoying the hotel amenities, we enjoy the scuba diving on the Kona Coast (much better than Maui). We also go off-property to enjoy a number of good local restaurants. Since we don't have children we find it is more quiet in October and November (the weather is still perfect).

Excellent Service, Great Privacy
By ,
I especially like the rooms with the outdoor shower. The rooms are nice, clean and adequate. The spa services are AMAZING. I love that there are several pools including the seawater pool with animals. I don't like that there isn't very good beach front here, I'd prefer a better beach. But for quiet and privacy this is the best, the staff will do anything to make your stay perfect.

Golf Course is destroying the Coral Reef
By ,
This is typical large resort hotel with a poorly designed golf course. Like all hotel golf courses along the Kona Coast, the fertilizer run off into the ocean is killing the reef.

Fabulous Property, Poor Service and Food.
By ,
By far the nicest hotel property we've ever stayed at in Hawaii. But very disappointed in the service. When we arrived, they had us wait in the lobby for half an hour before we could get into our room, and it was 2am Central time when we arrived. More service problems followed. Five Star property Three star food. two star service
