Noisy
By ,
We stayed for a week in the San Marco. We had a nice sea view as requested. At the time we did not know that there was a road betweet the beech and Hotel. We had very little sleep as we were right in the front of the Hotel. Lots of traffic through the night. There is a piano bar accross from the Hotel on the beech which plays loud music untill 3.am at least 3 nights a week. In truth if you want to stay here you must ask for a room at the back. The Swimming Pool was poorly maintained. The shower did not work and to much Chlorine in the water. Anyway since it is on the beech there really is no need to use it. Food was good. The Bread at breakfast could have been fresher. The best thing was that it was on the beach. The worst thing was the noise from traffic and music till late.

Very average

We stayed one week in the San Marco Hotel in Alghero, the location was ideal, just across the hotel beach, you pay from 6 to 10 euro for 2 chairs and umbrella which isn't too bad, we tried a public beach one day (Maria Pia) and it was nice but very crowded, after lunch and in only 2 minutes we were surrounded by extremely noisy Italian teenagers who started kicking a ball over our heads and playing football just besides us!! It was annoying but I guess it was "their beach"! Going back to the hotel, the room was a bit disappointing, OK it's only a 3* hotel but the nice reception and pool area makes you think the room is going to be as nice.....well it wasn't, very very small, barely enough room for a double bed, an old wardrobe and a small table and chair, but the worst was the bathroom, the sink had a huge crack from side to side which made u think it might collapse on u while washing ur hands! The shower was also quite old and TINY! We are both slim...and still it felt claustrophobic, finally every time we flushed the toilette there was a noise similar to a duck drinking water! Which sounds funny now but it wasn't when u had to go to the toilette in the middle of the night :) I told this in reception and asked for a change to a "decent" room, they said this was not possible as the hotel was fully booked... 2 days later there was a big group leaving and I wonder why we could not be changed to one of their (nicer) rooms...or maybe the other rooms were the same, I don't know! They fixed the drinking duck noise though!

Good beach side hotel
By ,
You step out of the hotel, cross the road and you're on a lovely sandy beach. That's the main selling point of this hotel. The hotel itself is a large pleasant 3 star hotel, mostly used by German/British package holiday companies. We stayed mid October, flying in by Ryanair, we did not book in advance, but they had plenty of rooms available, charging 75 euros a night. Large clean twin bed rooms, nice shiny bathroom (shower, no bath), a safe in every room. 20 minutes pleasant walk from Old Town, just around the corner from supermarkets and an excellent pizzeria. The pool was too cold to use in October - the beach is just across the road and the sea is warmer. Breakfast was bread rolls, cheese, ham, boiled eggs, coffee. Overall, if you want to be by the beach in Alghero, this is the place.
