Druk Hotel, Thimphu

Hotel was dirty and worn-out.People were nice but the hotel needs a renovation.The food was okay for Bhutan.Try to stay in another hotel.Try not to stay there

Our room was dreary and dirty. Curtains and bedding inadequate. Carpet and upholstery were badly soiled. Food was OK by Bhutanese standards. Understand the owner is building a luxury hotel not far away. Must be letting this one run down as a cash cow. Barking and howling dogs keep waken anyone who is lucky enough to manage some sleep on the uncomfortable beds.

The Druk Hotel is Thimphu was so dirty that we covered our bed linens with our clean t-shirts before we could try to sleep. The bathroom was filthy....the front desk personnel would not allow you to take a cup of coffee to your room. The carpet in the room was so dirty that it made us sick...demand to see the room before you check in...We have traveled 3rd world many times..and this place is just awful..the noise level is unbelievable. Several well traveled people with us said it was the worst night they had ever spent in their travels...no excuse for this type of filth in a hotel ...not even in Bhutan... The room and bath were less than comfortable. The dining was ok.

This is a perfectly nice hotel and definitely the best in Thimpu at the time I visited (July 2005). However, make sure that you are booked into the newly renovated wing - there is a definite difference!
