Don't expect champagne when you have a beer budget
This is an affordable place to stay, located close to I-5, with plenty of restaurants and basic services within walking distance. The front desk clerks were pleasant and efficient.
The room I got for $55 was actually 2 rooms: a living room (sofa, coffee table, tv) with small kitchenette area (microwave, mini-fridge, coffee-maker, sink, countertop, dining table); and the second room was the bedroom/bathroom area separated by a door.
The amount of space was nice, especially at the price -- but the decor was dated, the carpeting and sofa upholstery were in need of professional cleaning, there were a number of scuffs, dings and marks on walls, doors and furnishings. The bathtub was in need of overhaul/replacement. The air in the room smelled stale - opening the windows and leaving the door open for about an hour seemed to remedy the situation; but operating the wall mounted a/c unit made the odor worse.
I found that a spray bottle of basic cleaner/degreaser and a couple of old hand towels I had with me (plus about 20-30 minutes of general labor on my part) made the place acceptably clean. As for the sofa, I just threw and a sheet over it and I didn't wonder about what the stains were from. Walking around on the carpet in only socks proved to be a bad idea. The bottom of my socks became black within about half an hour - so keep your shoes on or bring slippers.
The exterior grounds were clean and secure, and I heard no noise throughout the night. If only the cleanliness and decor of the rooms were improved, this place would be easy to recommend -- but then I suppose the room rates would go up and no longer qualify the Traveler Inn as a "budget motel".
