Trashy / will not stay again
By vicki, 8/14/12
My husband and I wanted just a 3 night getaway. The hotels' appearance from the outside and the checkin lobby across the street were very nice. However, the hallways, windows, elevators, cloud nine/ fitness center bathroom were filthy. I dont think they were ever swept and or had the windows cleaned. Our room was not bad as far as beds, sheets and towels but the balcony was filthy. This was more like a motel room than a resort. Only 1 treadmill and bike worked in the fitness center and they had only 2 of each and the tread shut off after 10 minutes and would not restart. The pools were nice but the cement walks need alot of work. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Don't stay here!
By darla, 8/8/12
We were so excited to stay here, but when we got here this hotel didn't really look like the pictures on their website. For $213 a night this place was a freaking joke. It was very dirty, old carpet was coming up in places, mold and mildew around the window, the mattresses were so old and uncomfortable and stained! Room service was down right bad! Housekeeping came in our room picked up our dirty towels and left. There was no changing of the bedding, no clean towels were left, no garbage was taken out, and when I called the hotel desk for some clean towels to be brought up to our room it took about a half hour to get them then the guy who brought them stood there like I was supposed to tip him! Tip him for what? This was the worst experience in a hotel that I have ever had! What did you do to this hotel? Give it a face lift on the outside and forget about the inside? Don't stay here! You can find a nicer hotel for a lot less than $213 a night!

SADLY...THE REVIEWS WERE ACCURATE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/4/12
My family and I were so excited to find out that the Crown Reef Resort had rooms avalible. We stayed at this resort about 7 years ago when when visited Myrtle Beach and it was awesome. But as soon as we arrived on August 2nd, we could tell Crown Reef had took a turn for the worse. There was rust and mildew all on the outside of the doors. We had a queen suite with 3 beds and a pull out couch/bed. We we got in the room, there was only 1 pillow on 1 bed. The rest of the pillows were missing. The pull out had no sheets or pillows, there was holes in the bed and there were none stored. There was peeling wallpaper and water damage on the ceiling. The beds were hard as a rock, because the mattresses were super old, and the air conditioners didn't work. No matter how much we turned them up, it still blew out luke warm air. Luckily, the bathroom was decent. We stayed for 3 days and during that time we had no room services whatsoever. We had to hunt down housekeeping to get towels and trash bags for our room. When we went out, the room was the same as when we left. And with all that damage to the hotel, they had the nerve to put a brand new flat screen tv in there! That money should have been spent elsewhere. I'm not one to do reviews, but I just had to do this one because my family and I were very dissapointed. The best thing about the hotel was easy access to the beach. We will never stay here again or reccomend it to anyone.

Dont stay here, whatever you do
By allenhash, 8/1/12
I have just stayed at this resort for 5 days. This place needs some serious help. We had NO house keeping for the entire time, when we checked in I immediately called and asked that house keeping come clean the room. They never showed up, had to pratically beg for towels, had to make a call every day to the front desk to ask for towels. The floors are nasty, the "Non-Smoking" rooms are anything but. The toilet seats had burn marks all over them, this room hadnt been touched in days. Please contact me so you will know about this place, its run down and needs some serious renovations. They had a huge water leak, one of the elevators were out because of the water and the place wreaks with stinch. I wont ever stay here again, been going to Myrtle Beach for 22yrs now but wont make a return trip to the Crown Reef Resort. You can find alot better, cleaner, more spacious rooms and you wont have to continually beg for house keeping to come. Just look at others reviews. In short, this place is nasty and disgusting at best.

GREAT TIME
By Wayne, 7/22/12
After we booked this place my wife and I read the reviews and thought, oh no did we just make a big mistake. We left for a 12 hr. road trip from Pa. not knowing what to expect. There was 11 of us, my wife and I brought our adult children, their spouses and our grandchildren. We booked four rooms........Long story short, we had a blast. What a great family vacation. 11 of us, age 56 yrs to 4 yrs and everything in between with no complaints at all. The rooms where just fine, the pools where clean and the ocean is right there. We have many photos and vidio clips so that we can re-live this family vacation over and over again.

Omg never stay here
By BABY GIRL, 7/11/12
We booked a deluxe queen suite: no smoke detectors, small, 4 towels for 7 people place was nasty all around! If they put as much care and money into the rooms as their pools it would be great! Needless to say I'm sitting in the room on the phone with bookit to see about checking out and getting my money back

Trashy
By Calvin, 6/4/12
The most horrible place to stay on Myrtle Beach is Crown Reef. My wife, five year old son and I stayed here on 6/01/12 to 6/03/12 and had to exchange rooms two times. The first day when checking in the room the walls upon entry into the room had severe water damage, the appliances did not work and the oven doors were falling off. The beds linen was dirty and missing smoke detector. I call front office to report this and they said that they will show me two more rooms that I can choose from. The security guard they sent was rude and in a rush, he came to show the rooms and the first room he showed was a mess, this apparently was a check out that did not get cleaned. The second room was out dated but sufficient. The next day we went out to enjoy the surrounds, stayed all day and returned about 10:00 pm. We came back to the room to find that we did not get any made service, clean towels, bed linen, bathroom serviced and carpet vacuumed. I called to report this and front desk said that they would move us to a new room again. Well by this time I was ready to write off Myrtle Beach as a vacation spot, but why should they take the blame for letting this place operate in there city? Hmmmm….Please don’t let the nice blue lights and water on the outside of this place fool you looks are deceiving. FYI, customer service training class for the staff and associate are a must for Crown Reef. Clean rooms are a must for repeat customers.

Hotel doesn't care, so why should I
By peace, 5/28/12
The hotel looked run down, bad from the outside. Maybe years of wear and tear without remodel caused this, I don't know. I do know that a month earlier I stayed at Breakers and had the same exact layout as the Crown but with better quality. I still remember getting charged (at Crown) after I left, to my bank card for breaking an old outdoor chair I sat in. I am not a size 3, but I only weigh 145 and to break a chair means you have poor standards in updating your rooms. And to charge someone for this when their weight is no where near over the limit makes you feel like a piece of crap. Not to mention when I went to sign in, only 3 of us were in line but apparently the 2 out of the 3 desk clerks knew nothing about what they were doing. I waited about 45 minutes to over an hour to check in 3 people including myself. The newbies kept saying computer error but the senior employee actually apologized and kept leaving her computer to help the others. All that matters, but in reality if this is how you are treated here, NO I won't be back and I'm sorry but I have told my friends of the issues. Unless this hotel does a complete 180 soon in regards to the accomodations and staff, then it may have a chance. If it doesnt care then, I guess word of mouth may hinder it definately in our town,

Affordable and clean!
By Kat, 9/20/11
We stayed in Tower 2, room 622. It was very clean, and neat. Everything worked in our room. We placed the 'do not disturb' sign on our door. I had a laptop and other valuables with us. I just don't take chances. We were never disturbed BUT every day there was a bag hanging on our door with fresh towels, toilet paper, tissues, lotions, shampoos, coffee bags, and cups. I would just take the bag that the new things came in and put the dirty towels in it and set it outside in the morning. It was always taken. We even talked to the maid as we came out a few times and she was very nice! The only complaint I have are the beds. They are very lumpy and worn. My husband has a bad back so this was a problem for him, but he placed pillows around him and was alright. My parents were in Tower 1 on the 8th floor. Their room was also very clean and she had her rooms cleaned everyday to her satisfaction. Everything worked in her room also. We met several employees as we were in elevators or walking the halls. They all smiled, asked how we were enjoying our stay, could they make it any better. We had our 3 year old son with us, they would talk to him, joke with him. He loved the staff! If you want luxury and pampering, stay at the Dunes Village. If you want clean, family friendly, nice staff, good service, and AFFORDABLE (we are on a strict budget) then stay at the Crown Reef.
